Everyone had a friend who felt like this at 29… and was proved wrong by 31.

A lot of people say there’s a big psychological shift when you go from 29 to 30, especially if you’re a single woman.

All of a sudden, you’re no longer ‘fun and single’, your ‘sad and and alone’. People don’t talk about you ‘playing the field’, they talk about you ‘needing to settle down’. Your married friends are no longer ‘jealous of you’, they’re ‘worried about you’.

And that’s not even including the pressure of, oh you know, YOU OVARIES GOING BAD TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.

It’s enough to make a girl in her late 20s start to freak the frig out.

And nobody has summed the difference between 20s and 30s better than hilarious duo Garfunkel and Oats, in their song 29/31.

It’s from the point of view of one girl, but half the song is at age 29 (“29 years old and time’s on my side. I’m in my prime. I’ve hit my stride!”) and the other half is at age 31 (“There’s nobody left. I’m all alone.”) :

Oh god.

I can't believe we still think like this! I'm 53, divorced but single with 2 adult children. I love being single and free to do as I please whenever I want to! Don't worry younger chicks if you're not coupled up at 30, 40 just get out there and have the time of your lives - have children if you want- you don't need to be in a relationship - I'm sure many people won't agree with me on that though!

Thank you Suz. I could not agree more. Women need to stop eating this crap they're fed via the media. It's all about making you feel somehow 'not whole.' I can tell you, I am a whole person & have never needed a man or child to 'complete' me. And no, I am not gay. To all the women who refuse to conform to the 'rules of society' hold your head up high & enjoy the adventure!

OMG, not all single women are sad old spinsters ya know! Stop promoting this garbage please. I am much older than 30, have a great life, never wanted kids, am single & pretty damn happy. I am sure there are 'quite a few' out there just like me.
