real life

Everyone had a friend who felt like this at 29… and was proved wrong by 31.

A lot of people say there’s a big psychological shift when you go from 29 to 30, especially if you’re a single woman.

All of a sudden, you’re no longer ‘fun and single’, your ‘sad and and alone’. People don’t talk about you ‘playing the field’, they talk about you ‘needing to settle down’. Your married friends are no longer ‘jealous of you’, they’re ‘worried about you’.

And that’s not even including the pressure of, oh you know, YOU OVARIES GOING BAD TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.

It’s enough to make a girl in her late 20s start to freak the frig out.

And nobody has summed the difference between 20s and 30s better than hilarious duo Garfunkel and Oats, in their song 29/31.

It’s from the point of view of one girl, but half the song is at age 29 (“29 years old and time’s on my side. I’m in my prime. I’ve hit my stride!”) and the other half is at age 31 (“There’s nobody left. I’m all alone.”) :

Oh god.
