This year, Christmas arrived ahead of schedule. I can't pinpoint what fortunate deeds led to such a delightful surprise, but it seems that the beauty goddesses have bestowed their magic upon me and I'm not complaining about it.
Thanks to Myer, I recently received a gorgeous little package containing my all-time favourite treasures: five of the best cult-favourite lipsticks currently on the market.
While it might surprise some, I've always carried a tinge of insecurity when it comes to my lips. This is why I’ve always gravitated towards make-up because I know I'm not alone in craving the appearance of juicier, fuller lips that channel the essence of Brigitte Bardot.
This simple truth has fueled my quest to explore a plethora of lip products that promise to plump, hydrate, and shape my lips, making me a trusted sounding board for anyone seeking the perfect lip investment.
In the spirit of National Lipstick Day (which is July 29 in case anyone was wondering), I tried five lipsticks, over the course of five days, and wrote down all of my honest thoughts and feelings.
1. Estée Lauder Pure Colour, $59.
Can we just take a moment for the packaging please? This is the most stunning lipstick ever. And what's more, this lippy not only looks like a kiss from heaven but it smells like one too, so for all my red lip lovers out there I'm not about to gatekeep this perfect product.
You should know by now that Estée Lauder is a leader in the cosmetic world and for good reason. They create products that stand the test of time and deliver amazing results, so when the Estée Lauder Pure Colour in Persuasive fell into my lap I was beyond excited to give it a try.
This medium-coverage red lipstick is unmatched as it glides onto the lips, caressing the skin with a moisturising layer of rogue, leaving the lips looking expensive and free from nasty cracking.
I'm going to be honest, I usually lean towards classic nudes when it comes to lipstick shades, rather than reaching for a bold red. I've found in the past that they tend to make me look a little like a clown at a child's birthday party.
So if you're like me and rather play it safe than run the risk of resembling a toddler who just raided their mother's makeup stash, then let me assure you, this one is worth a try.
The medium coverage formula makes for a softer finish, which is smudge-proof and won't end up on your teeth 10 minutes later.
2. M.A.C Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, $37.
Allow me to introduce a lipstick that needs no introduction, yet deserves all the praise it receives: M.A.C Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, undoubtedly one of the most coveted lip products in the market.
So what makes this product so perfect?
This lipstick's matte finish is nothing short of perfection. It glides on evenly and effortlessly, enveloping the lips in a velvety veil of colour. And, unlike some matte lipsticks that can feel drying, M.A.C. matte lipsticks strike a harmonious balance by offering comfortable wear that doesn't compromise on longevity or overall skin health.
Also, the shade is to die for, Velvet Teddy is a super soft and versatile neutral that suits a wide range of skin tones. Its warm, deep beige hue, accompanied by the Barely There lip liner, holds the power to transform any look from everyday chic to a sultry evening lip ensemble.
It's the kind of product that any beauty-obsessed individual wouldn't be caught dead without. Oh, and not to mention, it's very reasonably priced and is seriously long wearing, making it a staple in every makeup lover's collection.
3. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, $46.
Attention all the 'no make-up' make-up girlies, listen up because this is guaranteed to impress you.
In its purest form, this lipstick is without a doubt following the gospel which says to embrace a 'yours but better' look. This product does exactly that, by enhancing your natural lip pigment and offering a subtly natural tint.
Given I'd heard so much about this product, I was very intrigued to try it, not only because it basically blew up the internet, but it's consistently proven to deliver happy customers.
At first glance it is a bit of a shock, the berry colours make for a dark pigment, which is likely where the product gets its name. But let me tell you, this is such a stunning product, and you'd be silly not to try it.
If you are looking for a new lip product but don't necessarily want the pigment of a full-blown lipstick, then buy this immediately.
I can honestly say this will now forever be one of my go-to staple lip products and god forbid it should ever go out of stock again.
4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Dewy Peach and Nude Illuminator, $25.95.
For all the nude enthusiasts out there, Revlon has once again exceeded expectations with this remarkable glossy balm-like formula.
It glides effortlessly onto the lips, bestowing a silky sensation while providing nourishment and hydration unparallel to others with the same price point. The result? A flawlessly smooth and glossy finish that enhances the natural lip pigment and adds a shine that makes the lips virtually irresistible.
It leaves no cracks and photographs like a dream, no wonder it flew off the shelves, leaving beauty enthusiasts everywhere in a frenzy. Don’t be afraid to experiment because It's safe to say that with this gem, you simply can't go wrong.
5. Clarins Lip Oil in Raspberry and Apricot, $45.
Let me start by confessing that I am an unapologetic lip gloss enthusiast.
I rarely go anywhere without at least three in my purse at any given time. You could probably tell I am a little obsessed.
Needless to say, I take my lip moisturisation game seriously. The texture of this lip oil is incredibly smooth, reminiscent of an oil but without any unpleasant stickiness. It glides on effortlessly, providing a seriously luxurious feel. And adding to its appeal, the lip oil boasts a deliciously fruity fragrance and a pleasant taste (not that I was indulging in lip gloss feasts, mind you).
But being someone who prefers a more natural look for everyday wear, I approached the bright red colour with a hint of scepticism. However, upon application, it transformed into a subtle pink tint, a delightful surprise that won me over and left my lips looking and feeling plump despite the winter chill.
If you're looking to elevate your gloss game by adding in a touch of love, then it's time to give Clarins Lip Comfort Oil a try. Trust me, you won't be left disappointed.
