We’re calling it: pearl finish lipstick is making a comeback. These are the best ones.

Stop what you're doing and apologise to your nanna/mum/aunt/older woman in your life. They were right all along. The pearl-finish lipstick is superior.

If you were a nosy child like myself, you were obsessed with looking through your mum's or nanna's handbag, getting a glimpse into "big-girl world."

I remember seeing at least two or three beautiful lipsticks in their handbags. They were different shades, but all had the same glitzy disco ball-like shimmer to them. Depending on the light, they even looked like they changed colour.

The pearl or iridescent or frosted lip made its mark during the '90s to early 2000s. Then came the satin finish, which I feel has been a constant throughout lipstick history. We then overlined the s**t out of our lips when Kylie Jenner and the matte-finish took over, drying out lips all over the world and allowing the lip balm industry to boom.

Before you have a go at me, I'm refusing to even acknowledge the foundation-lips era, which happened in the 2010s. If you were part of this, I hope you've erased all memories of them and have hidden those "fRiDaY nIgHtS lIkE tHeSe <3" Facebook photo albums.

As a society, we've really been through the wringer when it comes to the products we put on our lips, and I have a theory — we're going through it all over again.

I was recently in a crazy, goofy mood and decided to wear a pearl-finish lipstick out to lunch with my family. My mum immediately complimented me and asked where to buy the lippy. I told her it was actually one of her (let's be honest, probably expired) lipsticks that I "borrowed" years ago.

Since then, I've noticed that my mother has also been sporting a pearl-finish every now and then — and she looks amazing.

For the past few weeks, I've been rocking frosty lips exclusively, and the compliments have been rolling in.

Here are my top five pearl-finish lippies, so you can jump on the bandwagon without having to dig through your poor nanna's purse.

1. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, $16.69.

My favourite pearl-finish lipstick brand is Revlon. They have a great selection of pearl shades within their Super Lustrous range. My favourites are Softsilver Rose and Blushed.

2. Fenty Beauty Roblox Gloss Bomb, $37.

This gloss falls more on the sparkly side of iridescent BUT is a great in-between if going full disco terrifies you (I get it). Some of us need to ease ourselves into new beauty trends, which makes sense since it's... your face, that... everyone will be looking at.

It's a limited edition product from Sephora and the glitter colour is holographic gunmetal, so you can still achieve that subtle pearl look on its own, or you can pop it on top of your favourite lippy.

3. Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump Shimmer Glass, $43.

Tarte products consistently bring their A-game. Most people go to Tarte for their beautiful eyeshadow pallets, but do not — I repeat, do not — overlook their lip products. Their lip-plump range is so hydrating and juicy, and lasts so long without feeling like your lips are on fire. I was beyond obsessed when I found out they also had shimmers. The shade Rosy Mauve is *chef's kiss*.

4. M.A.C Frost Lipstick, $40.

An oldie but a goldie (literally). M.A.C have been in the pearl lipstick game for a long time (they never left). My mum would have the shade Bronze Shimmer in her bag, and although I thought it had its time (the shade can come across as pretty hectic), I might just "borrow" it from her like I did with pretty much all her other pearl lippies.

5. Sephora Collection Glossed Lip Gloss, $25.

If you want to hack the system, you can buy an iridescent lip gloss and turn any lipstick shade you already own into a pearl finish. The shade Strut in the Sephora Collection Lip Gloss range is one I've been seeing everywhere. My friend who swears by it kindly let me try it, and although it lasts a really long time, it transfers pigment very easily. It is however, a great make-do if I haven't completely sold you on the pearl finish.

I know that you're probably rolling your eyes at me for thinking that pearl lips are making a comeback but hey, if we were able to make foundation lips a thing, we can do anything.
