Red flats are this year's trending shoe. Here are 9 of our favourite pairs.

After years of sneakers dominating the shoe scene, I'm proud to report that flats are back... with a twist.

If you grew up watching The Wizard of Oz and always dreamed of owning Dorothy's fire engine red Mary Janes, now's your chance to live out your fantasy.

Watch: Inside My Wardrobe | Sequins. Post continues below.

Red flats are now being seen on the tootsies of every fashion influencer and cool celebrity — and they've thankfully trickled down into our stores so we can wear the trend for a bargain.

So take a look at the pairs I'm lusting after below, including a $12 (yes, TWELVE) pair that look designer.

Kmart Trend Ballet Flats, $12.

And just to see them in all their glory, here they are being styled by content creator, The Life of Clare.

Here are some other gorgeous pairs I'm eyeing off.

Perhaps a silly question, but could anyone tell me the brand/style of the red flats shown in the first picture, the pair on the right? It's the picture showing the bottom half of some white printed pants, the person has their ankles crossed & is wearing a white beaded ankle bracelet. These shoes don't seem to be listed amongst the shoes the author is 'currently lusting after' !!

Pardon my straight male naivety.
So even flat shoes can have pointed toes? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of wearing flat shoes?

@simple simon the shape of the toe doesn't really have any relation to the height if the heel. You can have pointy toed flats, or round toed heels!

I am wondering what you think the point of wearing flat shoes is?

@jeoh Comfort. But yes, I am just a naive, straight (middle aged) man.
