A 4-year-old boy has been expelled from preschool because his mum wrote a not-so-nice Facebook post about the school.
So I suggest we all go through our posts from the past few weeks and make sure none of them could possibly offend our children’s schools.
Because apparently it’s our kid’s fault if we say something inappropriate, and they should be punished.
Or perhaps this preschool knew that the best way to punish the mum was to mess around with her plans for the week by expelling her son?
If so, they nailed it.
The story, reported in Mommyish, is pretty shocking because we’ve all written a post like this, right:
US mum Ashley Habat put up this post after becoming upset that the school didn’t give parents enough time to plan for picture day. For some reason she decided it was a good idea to tag the school in the post, and this wasn’t her first Facebook-vent about them.
The next day she received a call asking her to come by the office after dropping son Will off and was told by the administrator that they were no longer welcome.
News4Jax reports that the letter of dismissal from the school explained that they felt the mother’s actions weren’t in the spirit of the school, stating that the family’s “relationship with Sonshine did not get off to a very good start the first day of school… You utilised social media to call into question not only the integrity but the intelligence of our staff… These actions are also consistent with sowing discord, which is spoken of in the handbook you signed”.
Mum Ashley isn’t happy, saying, “I was in shock. Why would you expel a 4-year-old over something his mum posts on her private Facebook page only people on her friends list can see?”
(It might have been because she tagged the school.)
But still, expulsion is going a bit far.

We had a boy at our school who was hurting and bullying other kids, including mine getting a punch in the face when he had braces (the school matron had to peel his inner cheek off the metal), and this went on for two years and a myriad of complaints from many parents, but it wasn't until he posted something disagreeable about the school on FB that he was sent packing. Good.
Well, it is a PRIVATE school and she DID tag them. So as harsh as it might be, it was a stupid action to tag them on her behalf. Why do that, unless you are looking for attention?
