From the creator of Knives Out and starring Natasha Lyonne, the Stan Original Series Poker Face is your new must-watch series.

If you think a series born from a dinner party conversation between Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne would turn out to be a perfect television show, you’d be absolutely correct.

The longtime friends and now collaborates have revealed that the idea behind their new 10-part Stan Original Series Poker Face was first developed at an event where the acclaimed creator behind the Knives Out movie franchise and the fan-favourite actress from shows such as Orange Is the New Black and Russian Doll were discussing their love of classic detective shows.

The result is the must-watch new mystery series Poker Face, which is centred on Natasha Lyonne’s character Charlie Cale, a woman with a preternatural ability to tell when anyone, anytime, is lying.

After a murder takes place and a nefarious casino owner (Adrien Brody) and his head of security (Benjamin Bratt, in perfect villain mode) attempt to force Charlie to use her gift for less-than-good purposes she goes on the run from them, in a road trip that allows the series to evolve into a classic case-of-the-week mystery drama.

With plenty of comedic elements thrown in for good measure, of course, which is exactly what fans have come to expect from the work of Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne over their careers.

Take a look at the trailer for Poker Face on Stan.

One of the strongest elements of Poker Face is Rian Johnson's signature whip-smart dialogue set in a fast-paced series that races through a new mystery and a fresh killer to be uncovered in every episode.

While never letting you forget the overall danger in the air and the fact that Charlie is on the run for her life.

The series is very reminiscent of classic, weekly 'whodunits' such as Columbo and Murder She Wrote, where Charlie interacts with a range of different characters who all become subject in some way to her unique (but not mystical, she wants that to be very clear) gift.

Along with Natasha Lyonne expertly anchoring the show, Poker Face is also stacked with a slew of high-profile guest stars who all become entangled in Charlie's tale.

Including Chloë Sevigny as Ruby Ruin, the front woman for a heavy metal band and Lil Rel Howery as Taffy Boyle, the brother of a Texas BBQ pit master.

Filling out the extensive cast list of guest stars are also Ellen Barkin, Jameela Jamil, Nick Nolte, Cherry Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ron Perlman, Clea DuVall, Danielle Macdonald and Dascha Polanco just to name a few.

In Poker Face, Natasha Lyonne is perfectly cast as Charlie. Over the decades that her career has spanned, audiences fell in love with the 43-year-old actress in the cult 90s comedy But I'm a Cheerleader, in big screen box-office hits such as the American Pie franchise and via her longtime role as the witty and often heartbreaking Nicky Nichols in Orange Is the New Black.

In the role of Charlie, the actress brings to life a character that is as empathetic and vulnerable as she is chaotic and sometimes wildly sarcastic.

She finds herself drawn to the wildest of situations and yet as an audience, you cannot help but feel drawn to her and invested in her life as she takes us along on this wacky road trip and solves a series of very strange crimes.

Poker Face is very much a fresh take on the classic mystery genre, created, written, directed and executive produced by Rian Johnson.

A creator who has proven himself to be a master of his craft when it comes to this method of storytelling and he even went on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Knives Out

Poker Face is the type of TV series that will keep your eyes trained on the screen as each new mystery unfolds (you might even want to put your phone down) thanks to the rapid pacing of the plot, the charisma of the show's leading lady and knowing you are in the hands of a storyteller who is adept at weaving shocks and surprises into the fabric of every episode.

But perhaps most important of all is the fact that Poker Face is a series that wants you to have fun with it, to laugh out loud at some of its more absurd moments and to feel like you're hitting the road alongside Charlie and her trusty Plymouth Barracuda.

If you're keen for a series about a human lie detector with a series of unexpected twists, then Poker Face on Stan is the new series for you.

The Stan Original Series Poker Face is now streaming, same day as the U.S. and only on Stan.

I watched the first four episodes that were dropped yesterday and it was definitely worth the wait. Natasha Lyonne is perfect in the roll and overall this show is witty, intelligent, intriguing and each episode is self contained with it’s own mystery. Loved every second of it. Bring on next Friday!
