Pauline Hanson, we just want to thank you.

It’s okay, everyone. Pauline’s got this.

In troubled times, thank God for Pauline Hanson.

No, really, Pauline Hanson, thank you.

Thank you for using this moment in history to bring our community together.

Thank you for sitting with a complex problem, considering it with quiet contemplation, seeking the wise counsel of experts, scholars, and people with thorough understanding of the issues, and bringing Australia your considered and measured response.

Here it is:

Thank you, Pauline.

Because this is what we need in difficult times: More division. Less understanding. Zero tolerance.

When men are being shot in the streets, teenagers are being seduced to murderous acts by dangerous zealots and an entire community is finding itself under a distrustful glare, this is what we need.

When young women are being harassed on public transport, “patriots” are staging faux beheadings in public spaces and religious intolerance is at at an alarming high, this is exactly what we need.

So helpful. And so encouraging to people like this…

…is so very helpful.

Yes, Pauline, we need people like you.

People like you who know that a meme with some nonsensical NO slogans and some finger-wagging ‘I told you so’s is precisely what will heal our divisions.

People like you who know how to seize a moment of public uncertainty and fear and fill it with hate. Leaders who can spy a scab that needs picking, who dare to take a precarious flicker and pile on the gasoline.

That is exactly what Australia needs. People like you.

So really, Pauline:

Thanks so much for speaking up for us in difficult times.

What would you like to say to Pauline Hanson?

According to the last Census, Muslims make up a mere 2.7% of the population. And just like some saying they are Catholic or C of E or Lutheran, doesn't mean they are all practicing. So the Islamic threat is negligible. They are not even 5% of the population.

Jehovah's Witnesses make up a greater part of the population than Muslims do! Maybe we are all in danger of them changing laws and denying us all access to
blood transfusions!
Makes as much sense as the hysterical carrying on over 2.7% of a religion. People need to look up the facts, and not fall for the brainwashing fear-mongering extremists who have no grasp on reality let alone facts.

I am sure that, a couple of decades after the whites first started moving into Australia, the Aborigines thought the same thing for the same reason. The number of whites was so tiny, compared to the total population of Australia, that the European threat was negligible.

Historically it was very easy for Adolf Hitler to convince good the good citizens of Germany to persecute their fellow Jewish countrymen. Australian's need to be very bloody careful we don't follow suit.

*Obviously with regards to the persecution of Muslims, just in case that wasn't clear.

My advice to people is, learn more about the Muslim's in your community. Do you even know any? And what do you know about Halal or what goes on in a mosque?
We need to smarten up and stop being drip fed a whole lot of knee jerk thinking by people who are barely capable of thinking for themselves!

Comparing someone to Hitler. That old chestnut. I don't remember her or anyone advocating genocide. Your comments should have been censored.

How about reading the Koran? And the Hadith. That will give you a clue as to what Muslims really believe.
Acquaintance is not a good guide of character. Did the murderous teenager's schoolmates know what he believed?
At the time of the Charlie Hebdo shootings, there was also an attack on a Jewish supermarket. I saw an interview with the neighbours of the perpetrators, who remarked what a nice, normal couple they seemed to be.
The Koran tells Muslims not to be friends with unbelievers except to "guard themselves", that is to hide their true intent.
