The AMAs night wasn’t without controversy: Katy Perry has been accused of racism after dressing as a geisha.
The singer dressed as a geisha during her tour of Japan but after wearing an almost identical costume during her performance of Unconditionally, the Twitttersphere went into meltdown accusing the 29-year-old of cultural misappropriation.
One tweeted: “This is the performance equivalent of an offensive Halloween costume,” another said, “Oh, good. Katy Perry is dressed as a geisha. I was afraid her sharp vocals would outshine her racism.”

Not about Geishas but on this topic, kind of:
I am a bit worried about what makes a performance or costume racist because my partner's daughter will be dressed as a First Nations/American Indian at her end of year dance recital.
She is 6 years old and has worked hard to learn the dance routine and is very excited about it and would be devastated if she couldn't participate but her Mum is not sure about the costume, which was chosen by the dance teacher and everyone in the class will be wearing it.
What should we do?
I think we're going overboard on this whole 'racism' thing. As long as they are not making fun of the culture in anyway I personally don't see the problem!!
