Man walking dog finds woman's body in Adelaide Park Lands

A woman’s body has been found in the Adelaide Park Lands, which surround the city’s CBD.

The body, believed to be of a woman in her 30s, was discovered by a man walking his two dogs in the South Parklands, near Sir Lewis Cohen Avenue, just before 8am.

Adelaide CIB and crime scene investigators were at the scene, and police were doorknocking the area.

The body has been removed but the road remains cordoned off to traffic.

Detective Chief Inspector Charmaine Peters from SA Police said officers were doorknocking the area and SES volunteers would conduct a grid search in the park.

She said identifying the woman was the priority.

“The pathologist has been down; at this stage it is an unexplained death,” she said.

A post-mortem examination would be conducted on Sunday afternoon to determine a cause and time of death, she said.

“Currently, there are a number of inquiries being undertaken with a number of refuge homes and sobering up centres,” she said.

“Whether she is from one of those areas, we’re checking our missing persons database to see if it’s someone missing for a while.”

Detective Chief Inspector Peters said it would be a sad start to the new year for the woman’s family.

“It will be a priority for us to find out who she is, so we could let them know and afford her the dignity that she requires and needs,” she said.
