Sorry, but silk hair scarves are done.
We know, we know. It was only six months ago that we told you they were in.
They’re still beautiful and definitely still deserve to be hung in your wardrobe or draped casually over your mirror (please don’t go Marie Kondo on all your lovely silk hair scarves), but things move fast in the hair world.
The People are on to the next big thing.
Hair clips.
As seen most recently on Brand Ambassador Rozalia Russian at the 2019 Portsea Polo event and in Zoe Foster Blake’s hair on holiday, hair clips and slides have grown up.
This particularly chic $350 Crystal Gucci hair comb that looks like a slide is also doing the rounds on Instagram – not sure how we’d ever wear (or afford) it but we want it anyway.
Different to the 90s claw clips we saw busting out after Alexander Wang models wore them on his Autumn/Winter 2018 runway, these hair clips can be worn with a casual low ponytail or with hair down and a sweeping side part.
You can also chuck one in your everyday hair when you want it off your face or are growing out an inconvenient fringe.
Russian’s Portsea Polo clips are from Sydney-based brand Valet Studio. The handmade clips feature pastel, pearl, marble and glitter detailing and will set you back between $30 and $55 each.
Tortoiseshell patterns a la the Gucci clip are big right now, too. You can wear these clips in a variety of sizes – one large statement slide, a rectangular slide with the old-school snap style clips and bar clips that look a lot like tie pins you could *borrow* from a mate.
Here are some of our favourite hair clips out right now to get you started.

ASOS DESIGN Pack of 2 Hair Clips in Tortoiseshell, $16.
Valet Studio Claudia Clip in Lilac, $35.

I have been dying for this to be fashionable again!!
I like some of them - the ones that look like they're actually serving a purpose and the ones without ugly brand names or random words emblazoned on them. I probably wouldn't use them as I'd be looking for an alternative to a hair tie and in my experience, clips just don't cut it for my hair. My hair is way too thick for them. I find the clips either break or they just won't "clip" over my hair.
