Sustainability drive: $1m worth of sustainable energy prizes for 4 Australian streets

Welcome to a sponsored post from Origin Energy.  I am actually a spokesperson for Origin Energy’s Sustainability Drive Campaign so I am very involved but I’m going to let Lana tell you all about the campaign while I appear in the video:

Who doesn’t want to lower their power bill? And who doesn’t want to make their house more sustainable? Now imagine if your whole street got together and won a share of a $1m pool of sustainable energy prizes? That’s the idea behind Origin Energy’s Sustainability Drive.

Origin Energy is encouraging households across Australia to become more energy efficient, while getting to know your neighbours. a little bit. Or a lot. It’s up to you.  This initiative, known as Sustainability Drive, will not only help you save money on your energy bills and make a difference to your impact on the environment, it also encourages us all to interact and work together with the people in our street.

We could all benefit from understanding how the appliances run in our home so that we can switch of some and change the way we use others. Cheaper energy bills is just one benefit – imagine the impact that we can make on the environment.  And working to make your street more energy efficient with the people in your street so you could all win sustainable energy prizes –  that’s just the twinkle in the light (if you’ll excuse my energy based joke).

To become part of Sustainability Drive, Origin is asking Australians to describe what’s unique about your street through words, video, illustration or photo to be in the running for the total prize pool of up to $1million of sustainable energy expertise and technology.

Here it is in moving pictures…..

Up to 80 houses across four streets in Australia will win – all they have to do is explain why they are the most deserving entry.

Prizes include solar electricity, hot water systems and 12 months’ electricity supply including 100% green power (up to the value of $3,000 (inc GST)), all you need to do is click here and submit your entry.

Entries are open from 7 March until 15 May 2011 so get creative, get to know your neighbours and put yourself in contention to become one of the winners of Origin’s Sustainability Drive. Click here

Comments on this post are just for this post. If you want to talk about the IDEA of sponsored posts or the choice of advertisers please click here. We will be reading all those comments too for feedback

Do you know your neighbours? Could you work with them to create a more energy efficient street? What’s your best energy-saving tip?

I have enjoyed your video information. My wife and I are in our late 70s and so are many of our neighbors. We live in Edinburgh Drive, Taree West 2430.NSW. Our Drive has on and off Footpaths.now you see them not you don't..We realise Council has a lot to look after with limited funding.. and to be one of those selected streets in this competition would certainly remove a lot of financial stress on us all.. Thank You

Oh, I'd love to do this, but I don't want to publish our street's name online:(

I had a great idea too for a video.

Hi Hear Mum Roar,

We would still love to see your entry! There is an option on the website which allows you to enter without your street name being broadcast publicly.

Unfortunately we're having a couple of technical issues this morning, however we're hopeful that our site will be back up in a couple of hours. Stay tuned!

Cheers,
Amy
