Allyson McConnell with former husband Curtis, and their children Conner and Jayden.

1. Allyson McConnell – the mother who was charged with drowning her two young sons in the bath, in their home in Canada – is to be deported on Monday to Australia. She has served 10 months of a 15-month jail sentence for manslaughter.

2. As IVF becomes more readily achievable for many women, new laws have resulted in fewer men donating their sperm, reports Fairfax. Now, there are laws in every state that require sperm donors to provide identifying information, which a potential donor-conceived child can then access when they turn 18.

3. In an attempt to slash waiting lists for surgeries, the government is planning to pay living organ donors up to $3600 to offer their kidneys and parts of their liver. Selling or buying organs remains illegal in Australia.

4. The Gillard government’s election pledge to pay top teachers a $10,000 bonus – a payment that is given at the discretion of state governments – will cease in 2014.

5. Talks between Iran and the P5+1 – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the United States, Russia, China, the UK and France), plus Germany – have ended in disagreement. The countries are no closer to agreeing on Tehran’s nuclear program.

6. A radioactive water leak is feared at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant. The operator of the plant says it is moving tones of radioactive water to another temporary storage tank, because of fear of contamination.

7. A ‘suspicious item’ which forced the landing of a Qantas Boeing 737-800 plane yesterday, turned out to be a part of the plane’s interior.

Great news about organ donation - as someone who may donate a kidney to my cousin the money issue is huge when you have a mortgage to pay and need time off work. I am self employed so some financial help makes the travel and time off work more achievable.
