This wonderful nugget of beauty wisdom comes courtesy of Mamamia’s beauty show, You Beauty. For this week’s In Her Bag, Leigh Campbell rummaged through Samantha Jade’s beauty bag to find out which products she loves.
Samantha Jade is an ARIA Award-winning Australian singer, songwriter and actress. After writing songs for international stars, Jade won season four of The X Factor Australia in 2012 and has since become one of our most successful artists. Samantha has also starred in Home and Away, and INXS: Never Tear Us Apart as Kylie Minogue.

Despite truly dismal Sydney weather on Wednesday night, Samantha Jade look stunning on the 2018 ARIA Awards red carpet.
The singer-songwriter stood out in an electric blue Lillian Khallouf mini dress, dewy makeup and slicked back wet-look hair. Very wet weather appropriate, we might add.
But one thing that’s always on show at any red carpet event is your skin.
When Samantha spoke to Mamamia’s executive editor Leigh Campbell for the You Beauty podcast before the ARIAs, she shared the two essential skincare products she returns to again and again, and relies on for red carpet events.
There’s good news and slightly less good news.
One’s from the chemist and the other is an exxy Hollywood favourite face mask.
To see what Leigh found when she went rummaging through Sammi’s beauty bag (the skin care, makeup and hair care products she buys again and again), keep scrolling.
Phisohex Antibacterial Face Wash, $9.49.
Why she loves it:
"I literally tried all the expensive cleansers... this one is just from the chemist, it's an anti bacterial wash. I always go back to it, sometimes I stray because I think I should be using something else, but I always come back to it because it's the only thing for me that keeps my skin nice and even. Around that time of the month, my skin is horrible. I've got oily T zone and dry on the cheeks and chin, this evens me out."
Aesop Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste, $65.
Why she loves it:
"I love the smell, I use it at night, it's not a heavy exfoliant. Sometimes with exfoliants it can feel like you need to be really, really going for it, but that's not great for your skin. I use it once a week."
The Ordinary "Buffet" Multi-Technology Peptide Serum, $24.90.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, $12.90.
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG, $12.70.
Why she loves them:
"They're very affordable - the caffeine serum is my favourite, it just goes under the eyes and it really works."
Avene Cold Cream (not available in Aus but the Avene Skin Recovery Cream, $39.99 is a good alternative).
Why she loves it:
"I was really trying to find a moisturiser that doesn't make me oily, that I can put on under my makeup if I don't have a primer on hand, and I love how this one feels. My skin absorbs it really well, it's not too oily."
Skin Physics Ultra Plumping Night Cream, $69.95.
Benefit POREfessional Face Primer, $55.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $99.
Why she loves them:
"Obviously I perform a lot and doing promo and press, your makeup needs to stay on for so long. For me, this is really good, it mattifies the skin and I don't need to powder too much. Then I use the Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Stick Foundation ($67). I don't use it on off-duty days, I try and use a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser. If I'm not working, the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk makes your still look like it's your skin, but satin. I also love the Cover FX Cream Concealer ($42), it's so good, it stays on but it's not too heavy, it's the perfect balance."
Kat Von D Beauty Tattoo Liner, $28.
Why she loves it:
"It's brilliant because it's such a fine point pen. After trying at least a thousand times with bad flicks, I'm pretty good at [winged eyeliner] now, this one is the best, it's very precise, and the black is really black."
Dior Diorshow Lash Extension Effect Volume Mascara, $56.
NARS Lipstick in Belle De Jour, $41.
Why she loves it:
"I'm a lipstick girl. I wear NARS Belle De Jour, it's the perfect nude and it's not matte so it's not drying. It's like a cream, it's beautiful. Every time I wear it, I get nice comments. I also love Nivea Lip Balm Original Care ($4) in the blue packaging, it doesn't have a smell that annoys me and it's really moisturising."
Nivea Express Hydration Hydra IQ Body Lotion, $4.69.
Nivea Q10 Plus Firming Body Lotion, $7.25.
Isle of Paradise Prep It Self Tan Priming Spray, $30.
Why she loves it:
"I always have to tan for work, but my mum has looked so young her whole life and people would always ask her what her secret is. She says it's no sun before 3pm, that was her thing, and self tanner instead of sitting in the sun. I learnt how to fake tan early in life. I found Isle of Paradise tans in the US, it's so good and they have a pre-spray, it's a water spray and it preps your skin, the tan stayed on for two weeks. I love Bondi Sands 1 hour Express Self Tanning Foam ($24.95) too, I leave on for three to four hours and you don't have to sleep in it so your sheets don't get dirty."
Evian Brumisateur® Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray (not technically available in Aus).
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, $63.
Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel, $42.95, and Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Wash, $42.95.
Kevin Murphy Do Over Dry Shampoo, $42.95.
Why she loves them:
"I need a lot of help with my hair. The Oribe setting spray is the best thing I've ever used. It's pricey but worth it, it lasts forever because you only use a tiny bit and it smells so good. I use Kevin Murphy Shampoo and Conditioner, the purple one for blonde hair, and the pink Do Over which is dry shampoo."
Sammi's Spendy: Hanacure All-In-One Facial Set, $110 US ($150ish AU).
Why she loves it:
"You get four little ones in a pack. It's a mask that makes you look 10,000 years old, when it dries. It's a clear gel and it wrinkles your skin, and when you wash it off, my skin has never been better the next day. I'll do it when I'm doing something special, or when the ARIAs comes along or I'm doing a TV special... probably once a fortnight or once a month."
Sammi's Savey: My Beauty Tools Mini Foundation Blending Sponges, four-pack for $5.99.
Why she loves it:
"I didn't believe in beauty blender sponges for ages but now I'm convinced. I don't do my full foundation with them, but I do my concealer with one because the little tip can get right into the areas a brush can't. Plus, they're so cheap."
