We’ve often seen Meghan Markle honour her late mother-in-law Princess Diana through her fashion choices.
What we’re a little less used to seeing is a nod to Prince Charles.
But her father-in-law will be very pleased with the Duchess of Sussex’s choice of accessories during her surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards on Monday.
Meghan appeared at the event to present a designer of the year award to Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy – a.k.a the woman who designed her wedding dress.
Appearing on stage, Meghan paired her bespoke asymmetric black gown by Givenchy with gold bangles and stud earrings from jeweller Pippa Small.
(Side note: Her Nosheen stud earrings are AU$87 and the bangles are AU$200-625).
The pieces come from Pippa Small’s Turquoise Mountain Collection, made by artisans in Afghanistan.
The Turquoise Mountain Foundation was started by Prince Charles in 2006 – it now works in Afghanistan, Myanmar and the Middle East to preserve and regenerate historic areas and revive traditional crafts to create jobs, skills and a renewed sense of pride.
Meghan has made it her mission to wear jewellery and clothing that is both stylish and has a social conscience – like that time she wore jeans from Aussie denim brand Outland Denim, generating so much in sales that the social enterprise was able to employ an additional 30 jobs for Cambodian women who were survivors of sex and people trafficking.
Just some of the other brands Meghan has also patronised include Reformation (which creates their clothing out of dead stock fabric which would otherwise end up in landfill), accessories label Kayu, which provide living wages to women cooperatives in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, and anti-fast fashion label Safiyaa, a clothing range which creates each piece made-to-order to reduce waste.
Her go-to flats from Rothy’s – which she was seen in during the 2017 Invictus Games – are also made from recycled plastic water bottles.
Meghan’s always using her fashion influence for good – and especially in her latest instance, we bet Prince Charles is stoked.

Why is everything reported as a "nod" or a "tribute" these days, usually a "subtle nod" or "secret tribute" for some reason???
It seems everything has to have a hidden meaning of some kind these days. Songs (although that’s not new), movies, tv shows. Everything a celeb posts on social media apparently has some hidden meaning or subtext. Even kids shows have ‘secret backstories’, God forbid we have just a straightforward entertaining story or wear something just because it looks nice. People seem obsessed with conspiracy theories and hidden meanings, but as our old pal Sigmund is supposed to have said - “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”!
I bet Prince Charles isn't stoked that she is constantly holding onto that baby bump when carrying out royal engagements.
Why would he care?
Seems we're all meant to care about the contrived bump clutching.
It is not very royal behaviour clutching her pregnant belly in public which she does constantly.
It makes for a break from clutching Harry or constantly touching her hair. Girlfriend needs to learn how to manage her hands.
