Authorities believe there may be more victims.
Until this week, mother-of-three Meghan Breanna Alt was the picture of an upstanding member of her conservative Mormon community.
The 25-year-old US woman from Irvine, California helped young children as a church kindergarten volunteer, worked for a health company, and had recently had her third child to her husband Adam.
She was also a beauty queen, taking out the Mrs Orange County crown last year and competing in the Mrs California 2014 Pageant.
Like so many other mums on social media, her Facebook page was plastered with smiling selfies, photos of her recent pregnancy bump, pictures of her oldest daughter’s first day at school and memes about the strength of a mother’s love.
But the wholesome image she presented to the world belied the ugly allegations now levelled against her.
On Wednesday, Ms Alt was arrested in San Diego, on suspicion of making and distrubuting child pornography involving a four-year-old family member, the Orange County Register reports.
Investigators were tipped off by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, authorities said, after she allegedly showed the photos to a US Marine in exchange for money and gifts.
KABC reports that during a police interview, the young mother confessed to several allegations of producing and electronically distributing child pornography involving a four-year-old family member, who was not identified.
She is also accused of advertising her services on online classifieds service Craigslist and later exchanging sex for money; at least one of those exchanges happened with her young children present, according to The Orange County Register.
Ms Alt’s husband, whom authorities do not believe knew about the pornography, has taken custody of their three children, two girls and a one-month-old baby boy.
Ms Alt is scheduled to appear in court Friday and was initially held in county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Authorities think there could be more victims because Ms Alt worked with children.
Anyone with information regarding additional victims is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victim’s Unit in the US at 714-647-7418 or 714-647-7000. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
