Israel warns they will increase military operations in Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that his military are preparing for the possibility of significantly widening their ground operation in Gaza.
It is estimated that the Palestinian death toll is at more than 260, with 2,000 injured. Hospitals in the region are struggling to look after the wounded. The Israeli death toll raised to two yesterday, with the death of 20-year-old soldier Eitan Barak.
Asylum seekers will not be sent to Sri Lanka
A boat of 153 asylum seekers will not be sent to Sri Lanka, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison’s legal team said in court yesterday. The asylum seekers have been detained on the high seas since their boat was intercepted on July 7. Justice Kenneth Hayne advocated a quick resolution to the dispute, saying that he would not let the case “devolve into a procedural morass”.
The government is required to file their defence on Monday.
Amazon launches subscription book service
Amazon has announced that it will be launching a subscription book service, similar to Netflix or Spotify, but for literature lovers. The service, called Kindle Unlimited, will cost $US9.99 a month and allow users access to over 600,000 Kindle titles as well as 2,000 audiobooks.

We’re running out of kale
One of the world’s largest kale suppliers has completely run out of kale seeds. Speaking to the ABC, Tony Hubbard, who runs the Australian office of Dutch company Bejo Seeds, says that his company is struggling to match demand, and that growers who once planted 1,500 seeds a year are now planting 150,000 every week, with the supply having nearly been diminished by overproduction.
Legendary Hollywood actor dies.
According to reports legendary actor James Garner has passed away at the age of 86. Garner is best known for his roles in The Great Escape, The Notebook and the TV series Maverick.
TMZ have reported that Garner was found dead by Paramedics at his Hollywood home.
His cause of death is unknown.
