1. Heroes on French train talk of moment they stopped terror attack.

Three men who helped overpower a gunman on a high-speed train in France have described the dramatic moment they stopped him, halting the attack.

The men tackled a 26-year-old man who opened fire on the train carriage armed with a Kalashnikov rifle on Saturday.

American Spencer Stone has described turning around to see the suspected terrorist with what appeared to be an AK-47.

Stone spoke at a live news conference at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Paris along with Anthony Sadler and National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos. He said he and US National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos then tackled the man, after which Stone put him in a chokehold which eventually led to him passing out.

“He just kept pulling more weapons left and right,” Stone said, adding that the gunman kept “jabbing” at him with a stanley knife.

A third American involved in the attack student Anthony Sadler said “I came to see my friends on my first trip in Europe, and we stopped a terrorist – kinda crazy,”

French authorities say the suspect, Moroccan national Ayoub El-Kahzzani, 25, has links to radical Islamism.

U.S. Ambassador Jane Hartley said they were heroes.

“We often use the word hero and in this case I know that word has never been more appropriate,” Hartley said.

“They are truly heroes. When most of us would run away, Spencer, Alek and Anthony ran into the line of fire, saying `Let’s go.’ Those words changed the fate of many.”

2. PM to visit Eddie Mabo’s grave on Murray Island.

He arrived last night on Horn Island to begin his annual week-long trip to a remote Indigenous community.

One of Eddie Mabo’s children, Gail Mabo, will personally take Mr Abbott to the grave site.

“For him to actually come and be the first Prime Minister to visit this island is very significant,” she told the ABC.

“To me that’s him showing respect in the fact that he is taking time to come here and do the pilgrimage to my father’s grave.”

3. Eleven dead after airshow crash.

The plane crashed into a busy bypass, hitting cars including a wedding limousine.

Sussex Police said it was “quite possible” more victims would be discovered.

The crash happened as the Hawker Hunter jet came out of a loop manoeuvre.

It smashed into the A27, sending a fireball across the carriageway.

4. Drug dealer arrested over the disappearance of Rosie O’Donnell’s 17-year-old daughter.

A man has been arrested following the disappearance of US Comedian Rosie O’Donnell’s 17-year-old daughter, who was found safe after going missing for a week.

25-year old Steven Sheerer faces charges of child endangerment and distribution of obscenity to a minor.

He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

5. Mel Gibson’s angry tirade at photographer.

Mel Gibson has done it again this time verbally abusing a News Limited photographer who took a photograph of him in Sydney.

Kristi Miller said she thought he was going to attack her “I thought he was going to punch me in the face.” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“He was spitting in my face as he was yelling at me, calling me a dog, saying I’m not even a human being and I will go to hell. He swore and called me a c***.

“It was non-stop, he didn’t even breathe.”

Gibson’s girlfriend apologised to the photographer.

6. Toddler attacked by family dog.

A 15-month old boy has undergone surgery to puncture wounds to his face after being attacked by the family pet in Brisbane’s north yesterday.

The Brisbane Times reports the boy was bitten on the face and neck by his family’s Border Collie Kelpie cross breed.

The dog was voluntarily surrendered to the council. It is expected a decision will be made today as to whether the family pet will be destroyed.

7. Police identify the jacket belonging to the little girl murdered and left in a suitcase.

Major Crime detectives were contacted by a person who saw the jacket for sale on Ebay. A New South Wales woman who was selling it has now voluntarily given it up to police.

The remains of the little girl was found, along with a faded suitcase, items of clothing and a degraded quilt, discarded near the Karoonda Highway about 2km west of the Wynarka township in the Murray Mallee region on 14 July.

Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins, from the Major Crime Investigation Branch, said the jacket’s seller had graciously donated it to police and it would be closely examined in a bid to identify its manufacturer and where it was sold. 
“This is another piece in that jigsaw puzzle,” he said. “We are continuing to examine all the information in this case and each detail brings us a step closer to finding out who this lost little girl is and who took her life.”

* Aged 2.5-4 years at time of death

* Likely Caucasian

* Had fair hair, 18 cm long

* Was 90-95 cm tall

* Was killed at another location

* Was killed some time between the start of 2007 and 12-18 months ago

*Most likely born in 2005 or 2006

8. Foo-Fighter’s upstage anti-gay group.

The Foo Fighters have “Rickrolled” the Westboro Baptist Church.

The church, which has a history of protesting LGBT people, Jews, and military servicemen, was picketing at the entrance of the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Friday, where the band was scheduled to perform on Friday afternoon when the band appeared before them on the back of a ute.

David Grohl and his band led a clap-along to Rick Astley’s 1987 single, Never Gonna Give You Up.

Grohl then brandished a sign that read “Keep It Clean.

Taylor Hawkins held up another sign: “You Got Rick Roll’d (Again).”
