When Florence Pugh debuted a buzzcut at this year's Met Gala, fans lost it over her bold new look.
If anyone can pull off a shaved head and spikey feathered headpiece, it's Miss Flo.
Some assumed that Florence shaved her head specifically for her Met outfit, or as a requirement for an upcoming movie role, but now the actress has set the record straight.
“I purposefully chose to look like that. I wanted vanity out of the picture,” the 27-year-old film star told Radio Times.
“Hollywood is very glamorous — especially for women — and it's hard for an audience to see past that."
In recent years, Florence has emerged as one of Hollywood's rising stars. Beginning with her breakout roles in Greta Gerwig 's Little Women and horror film Midsommer, she went on to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, and most recently in Don't Worry Darling.
In 2023, she will feature in the year's two biggest releases: Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two.

Florence went on to say that she makes an effort to avoid wearing much makeup when she's not at events or on camera. “Whenever I've not needed to be glam or have a full face of makeup, I fight to keep it that way. It helps the audience."
With her head shaven, Pugh said that this means people can see herself clearer. “Vanity is gone,” Pugh said. “The only thing that people can look at then is your raw face.”
This isn't the first time that Florence has touched on Hollywood's unrealistic beauty standards. “We are human, we are bodies,” she told Vogue in January 2023. “Yes, I can put makeup on and look good for a premiere. But at the end of the day, I still have hair on the top of my lip and I still smell after a workout and I still get spots when I’m stressed."
