Best and worst of the week 16th Dec

Happy Friday! It’s been a long week (showcased by the fact that I accidentally just wrote “Happy birthday” instead of “Happy Friday” to start off this post. Which wouldn’t have made much sense at all) and I’m so ready for the weekend so that I can slow down, catch a breath and try and come to terms with the fact that the year is nearly over. Wow.

Best: I love Christmas and in the office this year we’ve completely out-Christmassed ourselves. Lucy has been my chief partner-in-crime (she is also possibly the only person in the world who has Britney Spears Christmas carols on their iTunes) and we spend most of our days listening to Michael Buble and stuffing ourselves with White Christmas and snowman cookies. Rick was enjoying himself at first but quickly reached breaking point, and now he won’t even speak to us (this may have something to with the fact that I tried to dress him up as a present to go with the rest of the decorations).

It’s a testament to our un-Scroogey spirit that even Lana – who is Jewish – brought in a shipment of beaded South African Christmas decorations and helped Lucy decorate the office. The pic is below – it’s worth noting that the decorations on the ceiling are stuck on with tape and now keep falling on Lucy’s head while she’s trying to work. Christmas chaos is the best kind, right?

Anyway – my favourite event of the year is on this weekend and I’m so excited. Carols in the Domain, here we come! After the age of 15 I very quickly started running out of friends who wanted to come along (funny that) and so I’m glad that I’ve managed to rope a whole lot of people in from the office who don’t quite realise what they’re in for just yet.

Worst – I’m super unfit at the moment after having a bout of stomach-death-flu-virus earlier this year, shortly followed by uni exams and then surgery to have my wisdom teeth out. For the last month or so I’ve done a whole lot of nothing and I’m really feeling it. I’m thinking of starting to run home from work but it’s a 9km trip… any tips for me?

How’s your week been – what were your best and worst moments?

Hi Nat-
Try the iPhone app Couch 2 5k.
It teaches you how to run 5km and there is a sequel Couch 2 10k (which teaches you to run 10km.
Basically it is interval training to get you to run long distances. It has settings for music and a voice over which guides you! It's fab.
I'm a dancer and yoga nut but didn't do much cardio before this.. now I can run 5km without stopping or walking and am about to start the 10km one!!!!

Worst: I've had a fear of flying for a long time but it's worsened dramatically in the past few years. Earlier this week I had a full blown panic attack while on a flight landing in Cambodia. It was terrifying and it makes travelling so hard, even when I love it so much (and still have a month of this trip to go). Think I may be in for some full on counseling back in Aus.

Best: on holidays in a fantastic part of the world.
