Would you breastfeed a stranger’s starving baby? Salma Hayek did.

Salma Hayak is a UNICEF spokeswoman and as part of her work she was visiting war-torn Sierra Leone this week. The 42-year-old, who has a one-year-old daughter Valentina, was touring
a hospital when she came across a mother who was unable to feed her
baby boy.

Hayek
said: ‘The baby was perfectly healthy, but the mother did not have any
milk. He was very hungry – I was weaning my daughter Valentina, but I
still had a lot of milk, so I breast-fed the baby.’ She added:
‘It was amazing because he’s really looking at me and he’s very little.
My baby is one year so she can suck a lot harder.’

…..and no, I don’t think it was a publicity stunt or a bid for attention. I think it was a very brave and compassionate and instinctive thing Salma Hayek did and I would like to believe I’d do the same if I was in her position.

Jeez, everything is making me tear up today. Clip after the jump….

I have breastfed my niece when I was looking after her one day, she was 1 year old, never had a bottle and her mum had to do a days work. My baby was just 5 months old.
It was no drama, I was very pleased to be able to do this for my niece, it made it a much easier day for us both. She didn't cry, I didn't have to struggle with a bottle.

If the baby's mother didn't mind and Salma didn't mind and it's not a health risk then good on them! I don't have a problem with it at all. What a generous gift to a hungry baby.
