Jennifer Cramblett says even getting her daughter’s haircut is difficult. Her daughter is a mixed race child growing up in what Jennifer says is a small all-white town.
She fears her daughter, now aged two will never be accepted.
Jennifer’s stress and anxiety over her daughter may even lead to her moving the family to another town.
Jennifer Cramblett is now suing the sperm bank who gave her the wrong sperm – saying she requested sperm from a white donor and that the Midwest Sperm Bank in Ohio sent her an African-American man’s sperm instead.
Jennifer Cramblett’s daughter is not the one she ordered – but she is much loved and wanted by her two mothers, Jennifer and her partner, Amanda.
36-year old Jennifer is suing the Midwest Sperm Bank over the wrong vials saying the mistake is causing her stress and anguish.
In a lawsuit filed this week she says that in September 2011 Jennifer and her partner, Amanda Zinkon, chose donor No. 380, who was also white.
NBC News reports that the clerk who took her order over the phone wrote down the wrong code and sent them vials from donor
No. 330, who is African-American.
The couple learned of the mistake in April 2012, when Jennifer who was pregnant ordered more vials so that the couple could have another child with sperm from the same donor.
The lawsuit says that this time the sperm bank delivered vials from the correct donor.
It was then that Jennifer realized the mistake.
“Jennifer was crying, confused and upset. All of the thought, care and planning that she and Amanda had undertaken to control their baby’s parentage had been rendered meaningless. In an instant, Jennifer’s excitement and anticipation of her pregnancy was replaced with anger, disappointment and fear,” says the lawsuit
A month after Jennifer and Amanda found out about the mix up the sperm bank sent a typed letter of apology along with a refund for the vials.
On August 21, 2012, Jennifer gave birth to Payton, a beautiful, obviously mixed-race baby girl,” the lawsuit states. “Jennifer bonded with Payton easily and she and Amanda love her very much. Even so, Jennifer lives each day with fears, anxieties and uncertainty about her future and Payton’s future.”
Jennifer says that raising her mixed race daughter in this community has been fraught with difficulties, she herself did not meet African-Americans until she went to college.
She says the all white town have stereotypical attitudes about nonwhites and are racially intolerant.
Payton whose hair is dark, and has characteristics of her donor father has to be driven to a different town for a hair cut.
She fears that her “all white and unconsciously insensitive family,” which has never been able to fully embrace Jennifer’s homosexuality, could have a negative effect on her daughter, according to the lawsuit.
And the prospect of sending Payton to school in the town makes Jennifer’s stress and anxiety intensify.
“They’ve made the one mistake a sperm bank can’t make,“ her lawyer told NBC News “It’s not like she was ordering pizza.”

Why not move out of the backwards hick town and cut off the toxic bigoted family to give your daughter a better life?
If only one could sue when naturally conceived children turn out to be not what they wanted, that right should also be extended to those of us who through no fault of our own end up siblings that we aren't happy with, in fact there are a whole lot of relatives , parents included that we should be able to sue about who don't fit what we wanted. I hope god has a lawyer!
