Would you request a dressing room draped in soft pink or cream, with cream “egg chairs”, French ornate style floor lamps and “perspex modern style” coffee tables? Katy Perry does. Parts of her rider were recently released to the general public and some of her diva demands are a little bit bizarre (a rider is an entertainer’s list of star-quality demands that they require while on tour).
Besides listing the specific decoration requirements for her dressing room and adjoining “Glam room”, Miss Perry also requests certain flower arrangements – hydrangeas, roses and peonies are permitted, but carnations are completely banned.
There’s also a list of snacks to be served. Apparently Katy likes dry roasted edamame, freeze dried strawberries, Kettle chips (but only salt & vinegar or barbeque flavour), assorted flavours of Vitamin Water and, to keep it all fresh, a fridge with a glass door.
Detailed instructions for Katy’s chauffeurs include instructions that the driver must never start up a conversation with Miss Perry, open any doors (only security is permitted to do that), ask for autographs or photographs, conduct personal phonecalls while driving or stare at passengers in the backseat.
You can read the full rider here.
Katy Perry isn’t the only celebrity with strange requests. Rihanna likes her dressing room draped in black or dark blue drapes with “icy blue chiffon draped nicely on top”, while Jennifer Lopez likes an all-white decor. Van Halen wanted M&Ms in their dressing room, but banned the brown ones – meaning some poor soul had to go through the packet and remove them all. Paul McCartney insists on 19 leafy six-foot plants, four leafy four-foot plants and no animal by-products whatsoever – including furniture and carpets. He won’t even ride in limos that have leather seats.
What’s your diva demand?

FYI, Van Halen's rider was actually a technical rider and they reason they asked for a bowl of m&m's sans the brown ones, was because David Lee Roth believed if the crew ignored it, he had reason to believe they ignored other safety and technical issues, and thus, the venue was unsafe.
Lil bit of trivia for you Wednesday hump day!
Worked on a show with Katy Perry and many others a few years back and she was by no means the worst! Beyond demanded everything in her room be white. Everything! Not to mention the $500 bottles of champagne and noone except her security in the elevators with her. Katy Perry was tame!
