Police are investigating the theory Madeleine McCann was killed by a drunk driver.

There’s a new Madeleine McCann documentary coming to Netflix. You can find out everything you need to know about it right here.

Madeleine McCann was just three years old when she disappeared in 2007.

The toddler was holidaying with her family in Portugal when she went missing, while her parents were dining at a nearby restaurant.

There has never been a credible sighting of her since.

For the past 11 years British police, Scotland Yard, and Maddie’s parents have worked tirelessly trying to figure out what happened to the young girl.

Now there could be a new lead in the case.

As reported by The Sun, British police are currently re-examining the theory the toddler woke up in the middle of the night, left the apartment, and began walking around the villa looking for her parents.

According to the theory, Madeleine then walked out of the complex and may have been hit by a drunk driver, who put her body in the car and later buried it.

At the same time, Scotland Yard officers are also looking into whether it could have been a kidnapping or burglary gone wrong.

“A meeting took place recently at the HQ of the General Attorney’s Office, which was attended by the prosecutor from Portimao who is in charge of the Portuguese inquiry,” a source in Portugal said.

“One of the lines of investigation that continues to be pursued is that Maddie could have walked out of the holiday flat herself.”

Last week, David Edgar, a former investigator on Madeleine’s case, shared his own theory about what happened to the toddler.

As reported by The Sun, Edgar is convinced the young British girl was kidnapped by a child sex gang.

“She is most likely being held captive, possibly in an underground cellar or dungeon and could emerge at any time,” he said.

Edgar believes Madeleine is being kept against her will and might even still be in Portugal.

This month the British Home Office announced it had granted an extra £150,000 ($265,275 AUD) to Scotland Yard to continue the search for Madeleine. Metropolitan Police are chasing up two new leads and have told Kate and Gerry McCann they’re “hopeful of getting a result”.

Edgar hopes they’re chasing up his theory, which he didn’t have the resources to get to the bottom of himself.

“Not for want of trying but as a private investigator I was faced with certain restrictions and stumbling blocks unlike the official authorities,” he told The Sun.

The private investigator believes someone in Portugal knows what happened to the young girl and now is the time for them to come forward.

“Unless a body is found there is hope. Everyone hopes for a positive outcome and Kate and Gerry will never give up, even when the funding runs out. I hope they get an answer they’ve been waiting for so long,” he said.

Last Christmas, Kate McCann wrote a heartbreaking letter for the Telegraph, sharing that she still buys Christmas presents for her daughter each year.

“The presents I buy for her usually have to jump out at me,” McCann wrote. “She would be a teenager now so I always try and pick something that would be suitable and enjoyable for her no matter what age she is when she gets to open them.

“In my head I guess I just want everything for be right for her when she comes back home. The loft is filled with the presents I have bought for Madeleine and her wardrobe, too.”

McCann has also kept Madeleine’s bedroom exactly as it was when she disappeared.

In the letter, McCann wrote that she felt “numb” when Madeleine went missing. And now, a decade later, everything she does is tinged in sadness.

11 years of ridiculous theories. Surely it's time to stop spending British tax payers dollars to solve this or just get an answer why her blood was in the parents carboot.

Haven’t you ever heard of ‘cold cases’ they never stop investigating. My daughter’s son was having his nappy changed in the rear of the SUV the other day and bumped his head which caused him to bite down on his tongue and it bled. Some childs blood in a car does not mean you killed the child, its life. To doubt the parents is ridiculous, the police aren’t stupid they know the signs of guilt and the signs of innocence. Does no-one remember the Lindy Chamberlain stitch up. The NT police were about as useless as the Portugese police. They get all excited sometimes, the police and try and take the easy way out, then end up barking up the wrong tree. That child has a rights too.

‘Some childs blood in a car does not mean you killed the child, it’s life’.
The cadaver and blood scents were detected in a hire car (including car boot) that was rented over 20 days since Maddy had disappeared. The DNA had 15 of 19 markers for a positive match to Maddy’s known DNA retrieved from her pillow. 4 markers were too degraded. The FBI require 13 for a significant match to prosecute. Pre-EU Uk required 10. The EU require 16. Of course DNA forms part of the picture and doesn’t ‘show’ how the DNA got there

‘To doubt the parents is ridiculous’
No one or very few think they ‘killed’ the child. It is common practice to doubt parents, family, lovers etc in murder, missing cases etc to rule them out come on.
1.Kate refused to answer 48 police questions and 2. Gerry and Kate refuse to reconstruct events to help the police. 3.They admitted on camera that they did not help to search for Maddy ‘she wanted to but the first 48 hours were exhausting’. Then they gained strength. 4 There is verifiable evidence that they have contradicted themselves in statements so many times. 5.They refuse to acknowledge any theory but an abduction.

Yeah, refuse questions, don’t search or reconstruct. I imagine most parents would do anything to find their child. Answering questions, reconstructing events and searching for your child seems like common humanity.

I do not feel sorry for Madeline's parents. I do feel sorry for her siblings. They have been saddened by the loss of their sister. Madeline's parents contributed to the loss of their daughter by being negligent. You never leave a child on their own and go out to dinner. The children were not left with a responsible adult to supervise them. They thought their child would sleep through the night. Whether she was taken whilst in the hotel room or she let herself out is not the issue. If this had happened in Australia the McCanns would lose custody of their other children and be charged with wilful neglect. They do not deserve to have any children.

Interesting, so what is your opinion of the Beaumont children case. Everyone tends to defend the parents negligence due to it being 1966 but personally I still think it was negligent. As I said previously, I feel for them they paid a very high price for their mistake. I’m not heartless but being honest they were negligent.

I do not know the details of the Beaumont case, as I was a baby when it happened. Thus, I do not know the circumstances under which they disappeared as I have not viewed any documentaries about their case. The only news item I recall was a few years ago when someone claimed the children were buried under a concrete slab, which I think was taken as just someone wanting media attention.
