The unconventional true story behind Netflix's 'gypsy' family, the Furys.

A new Netflix TV series following heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, his pregnant wife Paris and their six kids, has made the Fury family into a household name.

The nine episodes, currently charting at number six in Australia, show the Fury's chaotic family life in their huge home, while Tyson struggles to deal with a possible boxing comeback.

Viewers are also introduced to other members of Tyson's family including his dad John and little brother and fellow boxer, Tommy Fury, known for his time on Love Island UK and his relationship with influencer powerhouse Molly Mae Hague.

The Fury's luxurious lifestyle as a family of eight, soon-to-be nine, is a world away from Tyson and Paris' humble beginnings as part of an Irish Catholic community of travellers.

The Tyson and Paris origin story.

The now multi-millionaire reality TV stars met back when Tyson was a 17-year-old unknown boxer and Paris was a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

"I am a Traveller, I am a gypsy. I was brought up in caravans when I was a little girl," Paris said in an interview about her childhood.

"It's just the traditional lifestyle; there's no real definition, there's no bloodline because we never went to the doctor to say we are who we are. There was no paperwork, there are still gypsies today who can't read or write; we're just that old-fashioned."

The couple were first introduced at a family wedding by Tyson's Aunty Theresa.

"The first time I laid eyes on him he was six foot six, so he was noticeable. He had big long side burns and I made a joke about him because I thought he was a bit gawky. I thought he looked like Farmer Giles," she told The Irish Mirror.

They met again at Paris' 16th birthday party and officially started dating; going ice skating and seeing King Kong at the cinema.

"The only thing I remember him vividly saying was, 'You look like a Sindy doll' and it upset me badly because Sindy is a second-rate Barbie," Paris, who was then working as a waitress, told the Daily Mirror

Tyson changes his ways.

While Tyson and Paris chose to not have sex before their traditional catholic wedding, Tyson admits he had a lot of sex with other women before tying the knot, and quite possibly after he wed Paris too.

"I'm a liar, a cheater, a proud, vain person," Tyson told Boxing News Online.

"The only thing I ever regret in life is having sex before marriage. If I could erase that then my life would be practically perfect. I regret all the filth that you do with people.

"I must have had sex with over 500 women, more, I don't know, I've lost count."

Tyson has admitted his behaviour wasn't great, and he says he has since changed his ways.

"I look at that now as pure disgusting. I'm not a religious person, but I like to help people and do good things. I'm stopping all the bad stuff.

"I've packed in the drinking and going out. I can get up now, go and take the kids somewhere on a Saturday morning rather than being in bed till 12 o'clock."

As for Paris, she has only ever loved one man, her husband Tyson.

"He is the only boyfriend I have had," Paris said in an interview.

"Even after we got engaged, Tyson would sleep in a caravan at my parents' home, while I slept inside the house. We didn't sleep together until after we got married. That is the travellers' way."

Tyson and Paris had a big traditional Catholic wedding in front of family and friends in 2008 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Shortly after tying the knot, the young loved-up couple had a baby girl named Venezuela, born in October 2009. They had a son, Prince John James in 2011 followed by a second little boy, Prince Tyson II in 2016, a daughter named Valencia in 2017, a son Prince Adonis in 2019 and baby Athena in 2021. Paris is currently eight months pregnant with their seventh baby.

In a now-famous quote from the 2020 documentary 'Tyson Fury: The Gypsy King' about their choice of boy names, Tyson said: "I'm a king and they're princes until they earn their rightful name."

But it hasn't all been rosy for the couple over 15 years of marriage.

In the Netflix series, Paris describes a hard couple of years for the family as she tried to keep things going okay at home while Tyson dealt with ADHD, bipolar disorder and depression.

Tyson's on-again-off-again retirement from boxing, since he first announced he was quitting in 2013 at age 25, has seen him frequently referred to as a 'legend' of the sport. But since the Netflix show aired to show his life outside of the ring, audiences are seeing a very different side to the often troubled superstar.

Meanwhile, Paris has gained a whole new legion of fans who have loved her humour and honest approach on screen while seeing her support Tyson and lovingly raise their six kids.

"Tyson will go down in history for boxing but you my love will go down in history for being an absolute QUEEN!! Hats off to you and your wonderful family," One fan commented on her Instagram.

As part of the Netflix series, which was filmed in 2022, audiences are introduced to the other Fury family superstar couple, Tommy Fury and Molly Mae Hague, just before they had their daughter Bambi and got engaged.

One of Molly Mae and Tommy's on-screen moments includes a discussion about whether their (then future) daughter will receive a traditional traveller upbringing, as Tommy did; meaning that family comes first and education is optional after primary school.

"With Tommy obviously being Traveller, he has had conversations with me about our child not going to school, which is absolutely non-optional," Molly Mae says in the show.

"I've been raised completely differently to that. It would never be a question that our children or our child would not go to school. That hopefully won't cause too many rifts."
