No, it is not 2007, but The Pussycat Dolls are in Australia right now and they’re not having the best time.

You see, they just want to get on with things and we keep being… weird.

They’ll never top 2006’s Buttons, but the group has a new song called React to promote. It’s even become a TikTok sensation, whatever that means.

ANYWAY.

Nicole Scherzinger and friends touched down earlier this week and straight away, the friends got to hang out in a hotel room while Nicole went on The Project.

And let’s just say, when a video of Tommy Little attempting a PCD-inspired dance move is the least awkward part of an interview…

It didn't go very well.

After Pete Helliar made some jokes about watching the React music video (which involves lots of latex and... rubbing) with his wife, Waleed Aly decided he'd step in with the important questions.

"When you guys are backstage, do you guys fight over who wore the best tube tops and low-rise jeans?"

WALEED.

NO.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

YES, THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS WORE TUBE TOPS AND LOW-RISE JEANS BUT 2006 WAS A ROUGH TIME FOR US ALL AND YOU. CAN'T. ASK. THAT.

"No," Nicole Scherzinger replied.

Like, that was all. That was her whole response.

Ah, yes. This was rock bottom, surely. The interview could only improve from here.

"Why don't you tell Nicole what you thought the lyrics were to her song?" Carrie Bickmore said, attempting to dig them out of the hole they had found themselves in, yet somehow... pushing them much, much further down.

"Why don't you just move on to the next question?" Waleed responded, which was a very relevant question.

But Carrie... persisted.

I remember being in Year 10 and singing "WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA BE FAMOUS, I WANNA BE A STAR, I WANNA BE IN MOVIES" at a high school dance with my equally as awkward 15-year-old friends.

Well, Carrie decided to throw Waleed under the bus in the name of content. Because, up until about 10 minutes pre-interview, he thought the lyrics "I wanna have groupies" was... "I wanna have boobies".

I present, without comment, Nicole's reaction:

The fun continued on Friday, when The Pussycat Dolls performed on Sunrise.

It went like this:

So yes, Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Carmit Bachar performed exactly like they have always performed.

Yet people were mad because The Pussycat Dolls acted like... The Pussycat Dolls. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sunrise's Facebook page was full of comments calling the show 'inappropriate' for the 8am time slot. Apparently Sunrise is a family-friendly show, which is news to... everyone, but especially Kochie.

GUYS, SERIOUSLY.

Nicole Scherzinger did not wake up at 4am for us to disrespect her like this.

Also, as if we hadn't put the boot in enough, Sunrise called the song 'Don't Chat' on Facebook, which Sunrise pls, 'Don't chat wish your girlfriend was hot like me' makes precisely no sense.

The criticism is not exactly new. In fact, the same thing happened after a performance on the UK X Factor last year.

In between Waleed's awkward admissions and Tommy Little's... dancing, Nicole said on The Project her group's intent was to inspire confidence.

"It takes courage. It's vulnerable, we’re not wearing as much there and it takes a lot of courage to wear that stuff and to do it. We always do everything with confidence, with the intent of inspiring and empowering others - of our women out there and anyone who feels they relate to us."

The Pussycat Dolls will be back next month for the So Pop concert and... LET'S DO BETTER NEXT TIME, AUSTRALIA.
