Prime Video has officially announced The Office Australia is happening. These are the characters we want to see.

Fans of The Office it is time to rejoice.

We've all loved the iconic original British series, then the wildly popular US one, and now it's been announced there is an Australian version of The Office OFFICIALLY on the way.

Prime Video made the announcement today, confirming The Office Australia will launch in 2024 (and I need it here sooner because I am so excited).

As for who will be our David Brent (Ricky Gervais) or Michael Scott (Steve Carell), Australia's middle management hero will be Hannah Howard, the first-ever female lead for the franchise. Iconic.

Hannah Howard will be played by none other than Aussie comedian and actor Felicity Ward, known for her roles in Wakefield and The Inbetweeners 2.

In The Office Australia, Hannah Howard is the managing director of packaging company Flinley Craddick. When she gets news from Head Office that they will be shutting down her branch and making everyone work from home, she goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep in order to keep her 'work family' together.

The staff of Flinley Craddick indulge her and must endure Hannah's outlandish plots as they work toward the impossible targets that have been set for them.

Ricky Gervais — co-creator, co-writer, and star of The Office — said about the news: "I'm very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century. Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can't wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent."

Production on the series will commence in Sydney this June.

In addition to Felicity Ward as Hannah Howard, The Office Australia stars Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Pallavi Sharda, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmit and Firass Dirani.

It's certainly big shoes for the new Australian cast to fill.

With this exciting news in mind, we've already started thinking about the OG characters we already love and would love to see Aussie versions of in the new series.

We need another Jim and Pam storyline in any capacity possible.

This is an absolute non-negotiable — there needs to be a romance storyline of some sort in The Office Australia.

Jim (played by John Krasinski) and Pam (played by Jenna Fischer) were the glue that held much of the latter seasons of The Office US together, not to mention what got many viewers hooked on the show in the first place.

This isn't to say that the Aussies need to follow the Jim/Pam meet-cute to a tee, but we need a work couple's relationship to be invested in. Thank you producers.

Dwight Schrute is the gift that kept on giving.

The Office US is synonymous with good ol' Dwight Schrute — the beet farmer, survivalist enthusiast, and assistant to the regional manager.

Dwight is comedy gold throughout the series. He is notorious for his lack of social skills and common sense, his love for martial arts, his rivalry with colleague Jim Halpert, and his determination to become regional manager.

The energy Ricky Gervais brought to David Brent simply must be replicated.

Ricky Gervais is probably best known among many for his scathing speeches and monologues at awards shows such as the Golden Globes.

As he famously lectured to all of Hollywood's elite in 2020: "If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech. You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and f**k off, OK?"

Brutal but brilliant.

When it comes to general manager David Brent, Gervais plays one of the most unlikeable characters on paper.

But somehow, despite all his idiosyncrasies, self-delusions, irritating workplace manner and often d**kish behaviour, he somehow comes across as extremely entertaining. And of course, Steve Carell's Michael Scott delivered on the same premise.

Kelly Kapoor's shady-yet-sunshiney personality is TV-gold.

Kelly Kapoor, played by the legendary Mindy Kaling, is a fan-favourite among many and for good reason.

There are just so many iconic moments that come to mind. When Kelly wore a long, white dress to Phyllis' wedding. Her determination to make her colleague Ryan fall in love with her. The gossiping. When she faked a pregnancy. I could go on.

Essentially, Kelly's a completely problematic character, but one who adds a lot of delicious tension to a workplace comedy series. And in every workplace, there's that one person. So The Office Australia should have no different!

A viral dance number with the whole cast couldn't hurt.

When you're scrolling through TikTok or IG Reels, one of the most common Office-related clips to come up is the wedding entrance dance from The Office US.

Now, it has to be said that with context in mind, the song used for the dance should defs not be recreated or used as inspiration (it's a Chris Brown one if you're wondering).

But the dance itself — the moves, the whole cast involvement, the plotline that tugs on the heartstrings — is phenomenal. And for many Office fans, it was this scene of Jim and Pam's wedding that left them with tears in their eyes. So if the Aussie cast are planning a boogie of sorts for their new series, we will happily oblige.

Lastly, we need facial expressions worthy of being meme-ified.

No one can beat Michael Scott when it comes to this gig.

There are thousands and thousands of Office memes floating around on the Internet, and the vast majority involve Michael Scott's face in some capacity.

The cringe reaction will always remain unbeatable. But additional acknowledgements of epic meme-level expressions should be given for characters like Stanley Hudson, Creed Bratton and Gareth Keenan.
