About 350 mourners have gathered in North Hobart to farewell a young father and his two-year-old daughter who died in a horrific crash in Tasmania.
Alex Peart, 18, and his daughter Ruby Rose Peart were killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway in Sorell, on September 15.
Mr Peart’s partner and mother of Ruby, Xanna Rose Weavell, was thrown from the vehicle but survived the crash.
At the service a statement from Ms Weavell was read by the celebrant.
She said she would always be grateful for meeting Alex.
“I’m just so lost without you,” she said.
“You always gave Ruby and I the best.
“You will be my true love forever.
Ms Weavell said Ruby was the highlight of her life.
“You didn’t deserve this, baby girl, and mummy is so terribly sorry. Goodbye, my princess,” she said.
“Life is so uncertain and can change in a split second.”
Ms Weavell’s sister Jazmine read a poem at the ceremony.
“It’s hard to know what to say when one so young is taken away,” she said.
“Her memory will forever be engraved in our hearts.
“I’ll never forget the day I met you [Ruby], so tiny and precious.
“It was a privilege being your aunty. The memories we share will be cherished forever.
“Rest peacefully with your daddy, princess.”
Police said Mr Peart pulled out of a line of other vehicles waiting at a breath-testing station before the fatal crash.
He made a U-turn and travelled back towards Sorell, overtaking other vehicles.
Soon after, Mr Peart lost control of the vehicle, which hit a power pole and broke in two upon impact.
The coroner is investigating the deaths.
