Sonia also told The Sunday Telegraph about her joy at welcoming her first daughter, Maggie, into the world at 8:24 am yesterday.

A picture of Kruger cuddling Maggie appeared on the newspaper’s front pages today:

“What an amazing feeling to finally meet our baby girl,” Kruger, 49, told News Limited. “It has certainly been worth the wait and she was certainly ready to make her entrance, weighing in at a healthy 3.8 kilos. Without doubt it’s been the best day of my life.”

She also revealed that the name ‘Maggie’ was partially inspired by a popular cartoon character.

“We’ve named her Maggie after my mother and the baby from The Simpsons. If you knew my family you’d understand,” Kruger said.

Kruger’s Channel 9 colleagues have taken to social media to congratulate the Big Brother and MORNINGS host. TODAY presenter Lisa Wilkinson wrote, “newspaper front pages just don’t get bettr than this! Congrats @soniakruger on the safe arrival of little Maggie. Your joy is totally infectious. we all can’t wait to meet her. Lisa. xxx”.

David Campbell, Kruger’s MORNINGS co-host said, “Congratulations Sonia and Craig and welcome to the world Maggie Kruger McPherson”. His wife was also very excited, writing, “Massive congratulations to our dear friends Sonia Kruger and Craig McPherson on the birth of their daughter (and my future daughter-in-law) Maggie. We cannot wait to meet her!”

Mamamia previously reported:

Sonia Kruger has just welcomed her first baby.

The 49-year-old television host gave birth to a little girl with her partner of five years, Craig McPherson, by her side.

Sonia shared the news with friends and fans on Instagram: “Guess what…they fit! Little Maggie Kruger McPherson born this morning. #happybirthday #babygirl”

Sonia fell pregnant in August last year after undergoing IVF.  At the time, she was subject to criticism from people who deemed her too old to have a baby.

But Sonia was determined not to give up.

“We tried IVF and it wasn’t successful. The doctors were very clear with me too, that for women over the age of 45, which was the age we attempted IVF, the success rate is zero,” she said in 2012.

She and Craig “did conceive naturally several times and miscarried on a couple of occasions”, but were finally able to announce a healthy pregnancy on Sonia’s social media. She shared her story with the Australian Women’s Weekly September issue, but was unhappy that they ran it under the headline ‘My Miracle Pregnancy’.

“It’s important to me to not mislead women out there as if it was some kind of miracle baby,” she said at the time.

Very, very big congratulations to Sonia and Craig.

Congrats, now please go away and be a mummy. I hope we don't have to have an update of this journey every step of the way. Next will be "hope I lost my baby weight at 46" blah blah blah.

Congratulations to Sonia. I'm not a big 'celebrity follower' but having used an egg donor myself (at age 30) I just feel so happy for her. All that heartache is washed away when your little one is finally in your arms (and then all the new challenges begin!). What an amazing person her friend is for donating her eggs.
