Now that I'm in my late 40s, I’m on a seemingly endless quest for products that will help me present my face in its best, authentic version. Products that will hydrate my dry, ageing skin, soften some of those fine lines, and provide a general 'glow from the inside' without any irritation.
I’ve always had a passion for skincare. And definitely a passion for makeup. So I’m LOVING the movement towards skin-loving hybrid products, including skincare-infused makeup.
Okay, so what exactly is that?
Great quality makeup needs to provide the look it promises and give staying power. We expect from our skincare targeted results to help us achieve our skin goals. Pop them together, and effectively, a skincare-makeup hybrid should be ticking both boxes.
My personal preference is a natural and fresh-faced makeup look that doesn't hide my skin. And I am enjoying discovering cosmetic products like concealer, foundation and blush that multitask with skincare ingredients.
I've heard a lot about MaxFactor's new range of skincare-infused makeup I've been keen to test. The Miracle Pure collection is 100 percent vegan and includes the super hydrating Miracle Pure Skin Improving Foundation, illuminating Miracle Pure Concealer, and highly pigmented Miracle Pure Cream Blush.
All have been developed with unique formulas to enhance skin hydration and giving a day-long glow with skincare ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants in order to improve skin from within.
So, here's exactly what I thought of them after a few weeks of trialling.
Miracle Pure Skin-Improving Foundation, $42.95
Ooh, I’m definitely impressed. This hybrid foundation is infused with 89 per cent skincare ingredients, including vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and a collagen-boosting complex to help provide 24 hour hydration.
Let that sink in... 89 per cent skincare ingredients!
I tested the shade 35 Pearl Beige, and the formula feels absolutely weightless! I can’t stand the feeling of anything heavy on my skin, and this formula felt like a big drink of water for my face.
The coverage was beautifully buildable so I could use as much or as little as I liked for my look that day. Most of the time however I only needed one drop of the foundation to transform my thirsty dry skin into a brighter, more dewy luminous finish.
There was no hint of greasiness, it slid over my skin easily and the big kicker was the improvement in hydration that continued through the evening even when I cleansed off my makeup. I’m really impressed to see signs that my skin's hydration levels have improved in the couple of weeks I have been using this foundation, and keen to see the results longer term.
While also being clinically and dermatologically tested, it provides SPF30+ protection to minimise premature damage from UVA and UVB rays. It's also available in 15 medium coverage buildable shades.
Basically, it felt like wearing no makeup all day. My skin has been loving this product! I’m really sold on this one.
Miracle Pure Concealer, $29.95
Next up is the concealer, which I tested in shade 01. It is basically my new best friend. Despite my best efforts with daily SPF (and reapplying), my pigmentation is out of control after the summer, so I have used this one a lot.
The Miracle Pure Concealer is as lightweight as the foundation and offers the same long term hydrating benefits. Again, it's packed full of skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, peptides and antioxidants.
I found it to be a medium coverage, which I could build on to easily cover my discolouration. It brightened up my under-eye area, did not crease in any way, and lasted the day with no issue. Because of the hydrating ingredients, the fine lines around my eyes and my 11s were visibly reduced. I also appreciated the super soft flexible applicator.
The formulation itself is 100 per cent vegan and is housed in a tube made from recycled materials. It is available in 6 shades, is clinically and dermatologically tested, and is well designed to work in harmony with MaxFactor’s Miracle Pure Foundation. Triple ticks from me.
Miracle Pure Cream Blush, $28.95
Admittedly, I’m not much of a blush user. No clown vibes please! But lately I have been dipping my toe more into the blush world to give my ageing face a bit of extra colour and dimension. Like many makeup lovers in their 40s, my skin has been getting drier, so a cream blush is definitely the best option for me.
This blush is designed to plump and hydrate the skin for increased radiance. Infused with moisturising complex ingredients, including hyaluronic acid and squalane, the product is thankfully lightweight and blends effortlessly into the skin with its silky and creamy texture.
It comes in 2 luminous shades – and I tried shades 01 Radiant Rose (a soft rosy pink) and 03 Vintage Peony (a warmer, deeper shade). Both lovely colours on my cheeks!
The Miracle Pure Cream Blush is easy to dispense in teeny tiny amounts so you can’t accidentally go overboard and apply too much. I could easily build the colour in a controlled manner to end up with a fresh, healthy glow that lasted into the evening.
All up, these products have felt gentle and caring on my skin unlike traditional makeup has felt like to date. I love the feeling of applying skincare but getting the coverage and enhancement that makeup provides. Two steps into one? It’s a yes from me.
