Tough judge Shaynna Blaze was on Mix 101.1’s Chrissie & Jane this morning, talking about the ‘roller coaster’ finale of The Block last night.
She answered the question we all want answers to:
WHAT HAPPENED?
$400,00Shaynna had tipped Max and Karstan to win, citing that they had “the biggest advantage in every way.”
But WRONG. They came third, with only a $40,000 profit above reserve.
So, Shaynna, whose fault was it?
“The deal was that, for a start, there weren’t as many buyers as there have been so the buyers ran out, and that’s why you got those great prices at the beginning, and then the other buyers just didn’t have that. What was great about Simon and Shannon’s was the architectural features they made. They literally molded, bent and shaped that interior into something special. It was very urban, it was very what was in the area of what people wanted.
“Chris and Jenna’s was the biggest apartment. Even though they didn’t have natural light and windows they had the biggest terrace, the big space. Their terrace was double what the biggest one was there. On top of that, they were really good in the fact that they did get upset but they listened to everything. That apartment that sold wasn’t the apartment that was judged, because their lounge room all of a sudden had the TV moved, it had timber, everything had changed. That’s fantastic.”

Great news for the top two couples, but devastating for the others.
“It’s one of the things. It’s everything. When you do a house, there is no guarantee it’s going to sell. It totally doesn’t make sense.”
Shaynna also revealed the reason the judges don’t attend any of the auctions and it’s, well, not as complicated as you think.
“I’ve been to one of the auctions before and it’s about the contestants. We don’t need to be there. We sort of let them have it and I don’t know the results until it goes to air because it’s in lock down.
“So I was watching it live and I felt sick. I felt absolutely sick.”
Us too, Shaynna. Us too.

I think maybe the designers put far too much emphasis on how pretty the apartments look. Max and karstens ad the most impractical bathroom. Redoing that would've cost quite a bit of money. Buyers look for more than just pretty cushions and towels.
Well they (the buyers) shouldn't! It makes the judges look like idiots!
No, hang on -- that would be their uselessness. I wonder, if we went around to the judges' houses, whether they would have that many pretty cushions, or such ridiculous features/designs.
Have you seen how much cushions cost?! They've got a few hundred dollars worth of cushions sitting on those beds. Where do you put them all when you go to sleep?
You sweep them off onto the floor in one swift movement.
The market is not what it once was. If I had a spare 1.9 million I can assure you my home would be near a beach and not an apartment overlooking an urban main road
