A Sydney fashion designer has been arrested and charged with five case of assault after allegations he groped young models.
“It was scary. He acted like he owned you.”
“He called me a ‘stupid fat slut’.”
“[He would] get up very close, right up against your body, and grab your hips, and arse, and your chest”
“[If] I didn’t kiss him back then he would be angry … grabbed my hand and made me touch his erected penis!”
Those are just some of the catalogue of allegations made by young models, some aged just 16.
More than 30 women who allege they have been groped and harassed, given unwanted attention, abused and taken advantage of.
Yesterday, a man who calls himself a club promoter and fashion designer was arrested and charged with indecently assaulting his models following a Facebook campaign by models Tayla Novelli and Tia Wright.
Sydney designer Shardz Houranis was arrested on five charges of assault with act of indecency. The public arrest took place at a men’s clothing store where he works as a salesman.
Police said “A man posing as a fashion designer has been charged over allegedly assaulting models and committing acts of indecency in Sydney.”
Last month a public Facebook page called ‘Say NO to Sanija Fashion’ was set up by 22-year old Tayla Novelli claiming that Houranis indecently assaulted his models on “shoots”.
Her page immediately attracted stories from other young women including Tia Wright who wrote a public plea begging other girls to stay away from the 31-year old “club promoter” and “designer”.
Young women flooded to the page with claims that Houranis lured them into taking part in swimsuit photo shoots with false promises of clothes and payment.
One woman on the Facebook page alleged Houranis “touched me inappropriately, tried kissing me and told me if I didn’t kiss him back then he would be angry … grabbed my hand and made me touch his erected penis!
“I legit went home and cried. We need to stop this,” she claimed.
Another took to her own blog to document how uncomfortable she was made to feel by Houranis’s alleged advances.
“Our conversations were becoming frequent and compelling and quickly became unprofessional,” she alleged. “He began making advances via text message with the attempt of organising dates and telling me we were getting married.”
The Facebook page showed photos of models being touched by Hourani. In one image he appears to touch a model’s breasts– although it is unclear if he is adjusting her swimsuit.
Others uploaded screenshots of alleged SMS conversations they had conducted with the designer.
And this:
In a bid to warn other girls of the alleged actions of Houranis last month Tia Wright spoke to Fairfax Media claiming “There were numerous times where he put his hands into my top, felt my boobs, and said ‘Yes, size B,’
“He’d yell at me and the other models, and get up very close, right up against your body, and grab your hips, and arse, and your chest and twist your body into poses.”
A photographer who worked with Houranis told Fairfax Media that she stopped working for him after she saw the way he touched the models.
“He would touch them inappropriately. I kept thinking, ‘Why do they let him touch them like that?’,” she alleged.
Model Dani Dent told A Current Affair that Houranis kissed her on a shoot put she pushed him away.
“He got very angry with me and very aggressive, because I told him to back off,” Dent said.
In the month since the Facebook group launched, more than 3000 people joined the ‘Say No to Sanjia Fashion’,
After his arrest yesterday the women behind the page expressed their relief.
“I don’t need to be thanked about this matter at all,” wrote Tayla. “The woman who were brave enough to speak up and come forward need to be thanked. So please thank your self for sticking by one another.”
Hourani was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Thursday, 30 July 2015.

A perv dressed in perv style ... no doubt.
Yep, definitely looks like a high end fashion designer in his thongs, boardies and t'shirt. What a douche bag.
