A 'Now and Then' remake is on the cards. Be still, our beating hearts.

It was the ultimate girl-positive film and it just might be coming back.

Scary fact: it’s been 20 years since Now and Then first hit our ’90s screens. And two decades on we still absolutely adore it, which is why we were excited to learn that the 1995 film may be getting a remake.

The cult classic, which told the story of four childhood friends coming of age in 1970, starred Gaby Hoffman, Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, and the late Ashleigh Aston Moore as the four young girls. Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Melanie Griffith and Rita Wilson, played the grown women.

To put that in perspective, this is what Gaby, Christina and Thora looked like back then:

And this is what they look like now:

Despite failed attempts to turn Now and Then into an ABC Family series, Hollywood is holding out hope of a remake in the near future.

“I’m very friendly with the woman who wrote it, Marlene King, so yes, that [a remake] has come up,” the film’s director, Lesli Linka Glatter told Vulture. “It seems to be [with] this film especially, young women have come of age on it and I love that; that was one of the reasons we made it, there hadn’t been anything done about young girls growing up.”

It was, indeed, a film that taught many of us lessons about coming of age and what it means to be a woman. Here’s just a few of our favourites…

While there’s excitement about the prospect of a new generation of girls being able to share in this heartwarming classic, the remake will have a hard time living up to the original, which will remain forever etched in our hearts.

Why does Hollywood feel the need to remake, rehash, reimagine, reboot 'classic' movies?! If the remake happens & it's a complete and utter abomination, I know that the "then" me, that lives inside the "now" me, would feel like somone had come along, stolen that little happy piece I had, eaten it, crapped it out, reassembled it, polished it, handed it back and said, "Your original (childhood memory) was a classic, but it needed to be fresher, so we remade it and put a modern fresh spin on it. It's still the same underneath, it's just that it's had a facelift." Remakes rarely work out; Conan the barbarian remake; flop. Total recall; flop. Charlie & the chocolate factory (Willy Wonka); maybe not a flop, but definitely, definitely.... yeahhhhh..... The oompa loompas in the remake freaked me out so bad!! To me, it's like they're saying we want to remake aĺl the Disney movies with today's technology. You DON'T F@$K with the classics, so keep your money grabbing meathooks to yourself & DON'T F@$K with my childhood!!!

In saying all this, I think it'd be better if they could make a sequel and set it in the "present day".. Deaths, divorces, growing up/older... I reckon that'd be a better way to go...
