Ever since Australia awoke to the tragic news yesterday morning from the United States – the news that 49 innocent people and the gunman who murdered them had been killed in the worst mass shooting in US history – celebrities have taken to social media to express their grief and frustration over the horrific scenes.
Many have posted photos of hope, love and defiance along with rainbow colours as a show of unity with the LGBTQI community who were seemingly the target of the attack. An attack which saw 29-year-old, Omar Mateen, enter well-known Florida gay club Pulse and begin shooting.
One of these celebs, and beautiful member of the LGBTQI community, Ruby Rose, has used Twitter as an outlet for her grief.
“There is nothing I can do today but cry and pray as I lay in shock after waking to the horrible senseless crime in Orlando,” began 30-year-old Australian DJ and actor.
The Orange is the New Black cast member revealed why the shootings hit so incredibly close to home – as she was in Orlando just days before.
“I was in Orlando Friday and played to a beautiful mostly LGBT crowd and I never once imagined reading this days after. These lives taken.”
Rose also changed her Twitter cover photo in a show of solidarity to the Orlando victims and their families.
Rose accompanied the change with another heartfelt message, “Woke up in tears to hear the news about Orlando. I’m devastated, heartbroken, and sick. I played there last Friday… and last night I performed after Pride in LA. From the Dj booth you see laughter, love, dancing, freedom and beautiful people living their lives not harming anyone. It’s one of the most beautiful things to see from stage.”
“This horrific tragedy has me on my knees at the mercy of a greater power to ask the simple question of “when will this end?”… I’m praying for Orlando, I’m crying for Orlando and I am there with you in spirit sending my love and strength.”

ok Mamamia, enough already. these lives matter but so do the tragedies that happen around the world, landslides, earthquakes etc. please lets not have saturation about American lives. We are all feeling for these people, we just don't need every article, news feed etc to be about this. For the record NBC is reporting this offender hated women, blacks, gays etc. he really was a piece of sh.t that doesn't need any more attention.
No, he doesn't need any attention. But those lost do. So do their families and friends a peers and fellow LGBTQI people. So does "gun control" in America. So does the issue of children being brought up to believe that some people are worth less than others. This needs attention. So okay, enough already, stop trying to sweep ingrained homophobia and transphobia under the carpet.
