Oil of Olay, face moisturiser with SPF15. Not every day. Just occasionally. Other than that, water, in the shower. Heading for 50, looking like 35.
I wonder if my fellow commenters have considered the commodification of children, by their parents, long before the internet and social media? From Shirley Temple to Judy Garland, Michael Jackson, Macaulay Culkin, Britney Spears and list goes on. None of these people escaped the hazards of childhood fame. Toddlers and young children are not equipped to make decisions like whether or not they want to be internationally recognised, in some cases for life. Society needs to take a step back and address this social media age with rules and laws designed with the protection of people in mind.
It does cost more to be a woman but not because of brow shaping and pedicures. It costs more to be a woman because those essential items that only women need are not considered essential by the traditionally male rule makers. You know, those little luxuries like contraception and tampons. My daughter pays $90 for her contraceptive pill. My son pays $12 for a box of condoms. My daughter pays $4 a pack for pads/tampons. My son pays nothing because he does not menstruate. Those are some obvious 'everyday' expenses. I won't go into how it cost me more to be a woman because I took time away from work to have and raise children. There is another story here about women's own expectations of/for themselves. Like the author, I spend a lot of money on myself and I love pedicures. However, I spend that money (that I earned!) not because of societal expectations but because, dare I say it "I'm worth it!" I just like stuff and am privileged that I can afford it.
@jonsully, the reality is that women are at a disadvantage. Looks, money and intelligence count for little when the owner of these assets is also female.
Just wondering why the author didn't touch on Pitt's habit of dating much younger women? This is surely relevant when questioning a man's character, as this article does. Juliette Lewis, 17, Brad Pitt, 27. Gwyneth Paltrow, 22, Brad Pitt, 31. Angelina Jolie, 30, Brad Pitt, 41.
