There is another factor to consider in engagement rings - and it is also practical. Hardness of the stone- measured using Moh’s scale. Diamond at 10 is the hardest. Followed by corundum (sapphire) topaz and quartz. Hardness relates to durability - the softer the stone (lower on Moh’s scale) the more easily it can be damaged (scratched, cracked etc)
