Do you ever find yourself chatting to a mate on Monday morning and they describe the AMAZINGLY, AWESOME and FREE thing that they did over the weekend?
And you’re all “Ah, where was my invite? Why didn’t I know that was on? How did I miss what could potentially be the greatest weekend event of my life?”
Well. We’re here to save the day because we’re not going to let you and your friends and family give into the dreaded FOMO (fear of missing out) disease.
So here are a few things that are happening around the country this weekend for you to consider. But of course: It takes a village to build a successful weekend, so we’re asking you to comment about events going on near you, that you think Mamamia readers would love. Sharing is caring.
Sydney:
This weekend Sydneysiders should head on down to the Cronulla Spring Festival, which runs from 10am to 4pm this Saturday and Sunday. There’ll be so much stuff to do up and down Cronulla Street, and absolutely NONE of it will have ANYTHING to do with the cast of The Shire. Amazing.
There will, however, be kids’ shows from the cast of Lazytown and Ice Age 4, as well as a baby animal farm, over 100 market stalls and the Sutherland Shire Marine and Boat Show. Visit the Sutherland Shire Council website for more information.
Melbourne:
Still on Spring, it’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. I know what you’re thinking: ‘But I’m neither Anna Wintour nor a Kardashian, I could never attend a fashion event!’ And I’ll tell you what I’m thinking: ‘Don’t be silly, Cinderella, you can go to the ball!
The MSFW has free catwalk parades all weekend across the CBD, as well as ticketed events such as the Sky High Pamper Picnic at Southbank on Saturday and Worn Wild, the Alternative Designers’ Market, at Carlton on Sunday.’ Yes, that’s what I’m thinking. Go forth and be fabulous, Melbourne fashionistas.
Perth:
Nationwide:
The foxy ladies from Fountain Lakes are making their cinematic debut in Kath and Kimderella, which is playing in theatres across the country this weekend.
The film sees the mother and daughter duo joined by all of your different and unusual (but definitely noice) favourites on the obligatory 2012 European holiday.
Oh well, at least they’ve made a movie about it, rather than just clogging up your Facebook news feed with their holiday snaps.
Over to you. How are you planning to spend your weekend?
COMMENT NOTE: To keep the site positive, respectful and troll-free, we are now pre-moderating all comments. So if you don’t see yours pop up straight away don’t panic! We will get to it as soon as we can (we’re aiming for close to real time) and so long as it doesn’t breach our comment guidelines, it shall appear. Thanks for playing. MM Team xxxxx

I noticed us folk in Brisbane missed out, we are spoilt for choice here in sunny Brisbane at the moment with the Brisbane Festival starting this weekend and running until 29 Sept.
Head down to South Bank to enjoy the following free events:
The City of Light Show – a light, laser and special effects spectacular every night (Thurs to Sun 7pm & 8.30pm and Fri & Sat at 7pm, 8pm & 9pm)
International Lantern Garden – a beautiful display of coloured multicultural lanterns that are turned on at 6pm each night
Light Sphere – popular art installation that incorporates mirrors and reflections.
There is heaps more to do at the Brisbane Festival, lots of free and paid events but these are just the few that i’m looking forward to attending tonight with my family.
Next weekend is the Walk With Me event on Sunday, it is a short walk (1-2kms) starting and finishing in Corinda and it is to raise funds for Brisbane children with physical disabilities, the walk starts at 10am and there is a family-friendly party at the end, including Jimmy Giggle from Giggle & Hoot (if you have children you will know how enticing this will be!) More info about this can be found at www.walkwithme.org.au
Another event for kids is the Wild Thing exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery. It runs until 8 October and it is a lovely (free!) event to take the kids too, just a short drive from Brisbane the Ipswich Art Gallery always surprises with lovely interactive exhibitions for kids.
have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to!
i noticed us folks in Brisbane missed out! there is heaps on in Brisbane:
- the start of the Brisbane Festival! Head down to Southbank between now and 29 Sept to witness lots of free stuff!:
The City of Lights show - a lights, laser and special effects show on nightly (7pm & 8.30pm Sunday to Thursday and 7pm, 8pm & 9pm Fri & Sat nights)
The Light Sphere - an art installation containing mirrors which shimmers
International Lantern Garden - at 6pm each night of the festival the lanterns are turned on forming a stunning gateway to Southbank's forecourt.
There are lots of other activities, these are just a few free ones that I'm taking the kids to tonight. The Brisbane Festival has lots of wonderful free and paid events you can check out their website here www.brisbanefestival.com.au
Other activities coming up are:
Walk with Me - a 1-2km walk beginning in Corinda next Sunday at 10am to raise funds for Brisbane kids with physical disabilities. The scenic walk starts and ends in Corinda and there is a family-friendly part at the end, including Jimmy Giggle from Giggle & Hoot (if you have kids both you and them will know all about this drawcard!)
Wild Thing at Ipswich Art Gallery - if you live in Brisbane and have small children then I urge you to head over to Ipswich and check out their Art Gallery. It always has wonderful free events for kids and their current exhibition Wild Thing is no exception. We have taken the kids over to this a few times and it is a fun thing to do, a separate area for babies and toddlers, craft stations for kids (and parents) to get creative and make their own wild thing masks and animals, cute dressups. I'm always impressed with this small Art Gallery.
Enjoy the rest of this wonderful weekend!
