We’ve got some news that’s going to make lipstick fans very happy. As part of NARS 20th Anniversary celebrations, the brand is launching a new lipstick collection with 30 drool-worthy shades.
The Audacious Lipstick Collection pays tribute to the brand’s humble beginnings, founder and creative director François Nars’ first-ever collection: a set of 12 lipsticks.
From neutral nudes to deep aubergines and dark plums, the pigment-rich, full-coverage formula is housed in a black metallic case with a magnetic closure. This is one lipstick you won’t find lid-off and smeared in the bottom of your handbag.
We rounded up some lipstick volunteers from our office (it wasn’t hard) to test out four of the new shades: (L-R) ‘Annabella’, ‘Michiyo’, ‘Natalie’ and ‘Vera’.
Here's what they thought.
Holly, iVillage Australia editor.
NARS shade tried: Annabella, a poppy red.
Skintone: fair to medium.
What Holly thought: I usually wear pinks and shy away from reds, but I found this shade bright but not too intense - just to my liking. It did come off on my teeth, but I think that was more in my application than the lipstick's fault.
Dimity, Mamamia office manager.
NARS shade tried: Michiyo.
Skintone: whiteish and sometimes red (her words, not ours!).
What Dimity thought: As soon as I put on this bright shade, I promptly forgot about it. This made the comments I received while wearing it all the more pleasant. The only issue was I felt I had to reapply it a few times to keep its brightness, but think this is to be expected with most lippies. Tick of approval from me.
Avi, iVillage writer.
NARS shade tried: Natalie - a flamingo coral.
Skintone: light olive, I go really dark in summer.
What Avi thought: I'm personally not a big fan of lipstick - I prefer lip balm or gloss. So while this is a bit of a "thick" lipstick for me, I smeared a little on and went over it with a clear gloss. That way I still get the bright colour (which I love).
Valentina, iVillage site producer.
NARS shade tried: Vera - a bright raspberry.
Skintone: olive.
What Valentina thought: I find it hard to find a lipstick that goes with my complexion. I loved NARS Vera because it works with my olive skin tone. It was easy to apply and for a darker shade, I was impressed that it didn’t stain my lips.
Available exclusively from Mecca Cosmetica, Mecca Maxima and online at www.mecca.com.au from 28th September 2014.
