When it came to my first birthday party, I’m pretty sure mum whipped up a cake from the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cakes cookbook, stuck a party hat on my head and snapped a few photos for the family album.
Granted, I’m no celebrity kid, so it’s no surprise that when Nadia and Jimmy Bartel’s little man turned one over the weekend, his celebration was much more fancy.
Aston James celebrated with family and friends – and about a zillion balloons – on the weekend, with his fashionable and sporty parents sharing snaps with their fans on social media.
There were no children’s party games in sight, and Aston was instead treated to personalised cushions and a giant yellow, blue and green balloon-wall installation.
Just…just let that sink in for a moment: a balloon-wall installation, you guys.
Despite the fancy decor, Aston still had a chance to do as children do and play with his buddies, with Nadia sharing an image of her one-year-old playing with his friends on the sand at West Beach Bathers Pavilion in St. Kilda.
Of course, an event this beautiful doesn’t come together without lots of help, with Nadia shouting out to Melbourne event stylists Creating Beautiful and party suppliers Poppies For Grace for their help setting up Aston’s amazing party.
Here’s hoping that Aston is surrounded by balloons for many, many more years to come.
(Can you tell I have balloon envy…?)

Tacky.
It's terrible when an event is styled for the purposes of Instagram rather than Instagram merely capturing the fun of the day.
Sad times if you ask me.....
I got rid of FB and Instagram for that reason.
