For most mothers, making a birthday cake for their child is a last-minute panic.
Not so for Kylie Gillies, whose cake-making skills are apparently up there with Adriano Zumbo.
For her son Gus‘s birthday, Kylie and her mother created a Pinterest-inspired Skittles cake (that also appears to somehow defy gravity).
And the people of Instagram are just as impressed as we are.
“I couldn’t make that if my life depended on it!” wrote one impressed commenter.
“Looks like something out of Zumbo’s Just Desserts,” said another.
If you need another look to work out how the hell that packet of Skittles is staying upright, Kylie posted another snap of the cake (oh, and her family celebrating too, I suppose).

Adriano Zumbo? Hardly. It's a regular cake covered in regular icing and half a packet of skittles pressed into the icing around one side, with a skewer (or other kind of stick) also covered in icing & skittles stuck into the cake with the packet stuck to the other end. Pretty easy, but good on her as I'm sure she has a very busy lifestyle and a lot of parents wouldn't be bothered!
I've made one of these with maltesers. It's easy - a balloon stick with the lollies stuck to it with either melted chocolate or icing and stuff the packet with cotton balls so it looks full. Kudos to Kylie for making it look fantastic!
