When it comes to the fabulously over-priced world of fancy candles, the French brand Diptyque have achieved a particular monopoly in the homes and Instagram feeds of celebrities and influencers.
But for those who oppose shelling out upwards of $80 per candle, we’ve sniffed high and low for the best budget alternatives, and the pleasure was all ours.
For lovers of subtle, figgy scents, Target’s $8 Fig Leaf & Verbena candle smells reminiscent of Diptyque’s Figuier scent, but if you prefer floral and rosier notes then Kmart has you covered with their $9 Decadent Scent Pink Peonies Fragrant Candle, and if you’re a fan of Diptyque’s best-selling scent, ‘Baies,’ than you’ll love this affordable pick too.
While the fragrances aren't an exact dupe per-say, they are similar in their floral and fresh composition.
Although Baies is fresher and more acidic with notes of rose and blackcurrant leaves, Pink Peonies is muskier, creamier and more gourmand thanks to its vanilla base. According to Kmart's website the candle contain top notes of bergamot and champagne (for freshness), middle notes of peony, jasmine and sweet violet, which give the candle its floral kick, and sit on a sweet base of woods, musk and vanilla.
However, when you compare the quality between the Diptyque and Kmart candles, the latter $9 option stands up to its exxier counterpart. The scent throw is particularly impressive, and it'll definitely fill a room with its sweet floral tones.
It also comes in a super chic and heavy pink glass jar complete with an on-trend rose gold, copper lid, which will look absolutely fabulous sitting pretty on your vanity, coffee table or bathroom counter.
You might as well get yourself into your nearest Kmart to check out their latest home wares range, and pick up a candle on your way out.
