Kim and Kourtney Kardashian's vicious phone call from the season four premiere of The Kardashians continues to divide fans.
The argument began as Kim invited Kourtney to a Dolce & Gabbana event in Milan, which then brought up an old beef from last season where Kourtney accused Kim of copying her wedding moment by partnering with the Italian design house for a collection.
The verbal fight escalated. It began with Kim throwing barbs about Kourtney's wedding aesthetic not being particularly groundbreaking, then came the personal insults.
The most egregious was Kim saying that her sister's friends and children come to her to talk about Kourtney, with the reality star going as far to claim they're all part of a 'Not Kourtney' group chat.
Watch the fight play out here. Post continued after video.
None of this was something anyone should say to their sister, but it was the mention of Kourtney kids – 13-year-old Mason, 11-year-old Penelope, and 8-year-old Reign – that viewers consider a step too far.
"We're on a group chat that's actually labelled 'Not Kourtney' so we know and have to funnel what your friends are saying to us and have to figure why you're such a different person and why you have this vendetta," Kim said in the episode.
In response, Kourtney told Kim to "get a f--king life," she replied. "I don't have side chats about anyone."
For some reason, Kim responded by telling her sister "Well, your kids have even come to me with problems that they have and how you are, so."
At this point, Kourtney became emotional, saying back "Is that helpful? You're like adding it into a fight to have a side—like, it's you and my friends and my kids and everyone against me? It's like, you're just a f**king witch and I f**king hate you."
The attempt to turn Kourtney's kids against their mother is something that struck many viewers as crossing a line.
This is far from the first time that Kim and Kourtney have fought, in fact twice their feuds have turned physical, but it was the mention of one of the sister's children that propelled the fight into inappropriate territory.
The Kardashian family have shown in the past that they lack boundaries around the information Kourtney's kids should and should not be privy to.
Listen to The Spill discuss the Kardashian's worst moments with their kids in the new season. Article continues.
In season 17 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloé tried to investigate who Kourtney was dating at the time, and received the reply “With kids, call you later," a text she read out in front of Kourtney's kids Mason and Penelope.
After discovering Reign was with his father Scott Disick, Khoé said to Kourtney's kids "Mum’s a liar!” which then prompted Penelope to echo her aunt, shouting “Mum’s a liar!”
In another uncomfortable moment in season 17, Kim and Khloé FaceTimed Kourtney while she was with her daughter Penelope doing a cooking lesson. The sisters attacked Kourtney's work ethic and threatened to fire her from the show.
After the call, Kourtney texted Khloé, “How dare anyone disrespect me like that in front of my daughter? I’m now crying when I have people over taking a cooking lesson. Have a nice night.”
The Kardashians are not a family who have a history of respectful behaviour: they routinely bully each other, encroach on each other's personal space, and well, terrorise one another.
But Kim weaponising Kourtney's kids in an attempt to win a petty fight is not just uncomfortable to watch, it's bad TV. After all, these kids aren't at an age where they can consent to having their private conversations with their aunt aired on a reality show.
And this is coming from the same Kim Kardashian who refuses to speak unfavourably about her ex-husband Kanye West in front of North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm to protect how her children view their father.
Kim clearly knows where the line is that she shouldn't cross, but in the case of Kourtney, she simply doesn't care to see it.
