Kate Ritchie has weighed in on Sam Frost's new gig on Home and Away.

When it was announced earlier this week that Sam Frost had landed an recurring role on Home and Away, some were interested in how she would handle the job without any formal acting training.

Now radio host and long-time Summer Bay resident, Kate Ritchie, who now works in radio, has stood up for The Bachelorette alum.

On Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty show yesterday, the 38-year-old said she didn’t understand why people were being so critical of Frost and “mean-spirited” about her latest career move.

“There have been a lot of people who have joined that show without any training and some have left without any training,” she explained to her listeners.

“They’ve gone on to do many things or they remain there because it’s a very worthy career in itself.

“What’s everyone meant to do? Turn down opportunities because they’re worried about what everyone is going to think of it?”

Frost, herself, defended her move into Summer Bay on Instagram on Thursday night.

“I am not afraid to challenge myself, to push through barriers,” she wrote. “I work incredibly hard professionally & personally to constantly grow, learn and evolve.”

“I have chosen to live my life embracing opportunities & challenges with open arms. It may work, it may not… but at least I can say I was brave enough to give it a shot.”

Earlier this week, Frost told Confidential to land the role, she went through the same “rigorous” audition process as everyone else.

“I grew up watching Home And Away and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be on set and part of the cast,” she said.

“I got asked [to audition] while I was working on Hell’s Kitchen. I auditioned against a whole bunch of people and that’s why I thought I wouldn’t get the role.”

“After my second audition, when they finally said, ‘You got the job!’ I screamed. I was so excited.”

In more good news, this week the former Bachelorette also announced she’s in a relationship with her long-term friend Dave Bashford.
