Six months ago, Jules and Cam were the shining light of love on MAFS. Now the tide has turned.

Although the last season of Married at First Sight ended more than six months ago, the contestants are certainly still making headlines.

Last week, Jules and Cam – a.k.a the shining light of love that MAFS needed among the cheating scandals and fruit bowl throwing – were married for real on last Tuesday’s episode of A Current Affair.

Although the wedding itself actually took place on Sunday, November 17, the 90 minute-special was the first time fans were able to take a glimpse into the wedding as guests were reportedly banned from sharing any photos from the wedding.

As well as airing the couple’s (second) wedding, the coverage of the event also followed the lead-up to the wedding day itself – including the behind-the-scenes drama that leaked well beyond the couple’s wedding day.

In the lead up to the wedding, the couple made headlines as stories about the couple asking for ‘freebies’, banning guests from sharing photos, and Jules dumping her bridesmaid and ex-Married at First Sight co-star Mel via text were shared in the media.

Now that Jules and Cam are married ~for real~, we decided to take a look back at their, erm, unique relationship timeline.

Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson’s relationship

Jules and Cam’s relationship began when the pair met for the very first time at the altar on season six of Married at First Sight.

In a season that was plagued by cheating scandals, couple swapping and violent fights, the couple, who predominately avoided the drama, were often described as the show’s ultimate success story.

From buying pot plants together to chatting about having children in the future, it was obvious throughout the season that the couple’s relationship was going to last.

As Jessika and Dan’s controversial affair unfolded on the show, Jules and Cam actually considered leaving the show because they were already committed to each other and planning to move in together outside of the experiment.

In the end, the couple decided to stay on the show and at the Final Vows, Cam proposed to Jules.

Earlier this year, however, the couple were forced to postpone their wedding.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle in September, Jules said planning the event so quickly was “too much, too soon”.

“It was a romantic gesture and we booked a venue on that and ended up losing our $5,000 deposit but I just thought – yeah that’s not going to happen anymore.”

Posting to Instagram at the time, Jules further explained why she postponed the wedding.

“For the record we did cancel our wedding this month. For one reason only… it was too much too soon and I wanted to be a bride that enjoys the process of planning a wedding, and not be one that moans about it,” she wrote.

“It felt too rushed to do and everything happens for a reason.”

In the months that followed, some fans questioned whether the pair had postponed their wedding so that it could be televised.

There were also rumours that the couple had changed their wedding location to Sydney – rather than their original location of the Hunter Valley – to accommodate filming.

According to Mel, Jules sent her a text to let her know she would no longer be her bridesmaid.

Posting to Instagram on the day of the couple’s wedding, Mel shared that she wasn’t a bridesmaid – and she didn’t attend the wedding at all.

“I’ve had so many messages and people keep asking me what the story is. So yes, it is true, Jules dumped me as a bridesmaid,”she said.

“As for why, I’m honestly not sure… she kept changing her reasons and none of them made sense,” she added.

“It really all just came out of the blue and I didn’t see it coming at all. of course, you’re allowed to change your mind about who you want as a bridesmaid, but I just feel like the way it was done was really cold and rather hurtful.”

After the wedding was televised last Tuesday night, a number of former Married at First Sight contestants shared their reactions to the ceremony on Instagram.

"I wish MAFS and A Current Affair paid me $75,000 to act like a complete tw*t on TV," former contestant Jessika Power wrote on Instagram.

"Sylvia must have seriously maxed out the Channel 9 credit card paying for this wedding," one person wrote on Twitter, referring to Sylvia Jeffreys who hosted the special.

"Off camera you can imagine Sylvia hanging over the Channel 9 cheque book to the dressmaker, the venue, the florist..." another said.
