NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been accused of rape in a civil suit lodged in the Santa Clara County court in the United States.
The Mercury News reports the suit alleges Hayne had nonconsensual sexual intercourse with a “Ms. V” in December 2015.
The rugby player spent 2015 trying to crack into the NFL, playing for the San Francisco 49ers.
The news outlet also reports the suit was reviewed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office as a criminal case but was rejected due to insufficient evidence.
In a statement provided to News Corp, Ms. V’s lawyer John Clune outlined the claims.
“Mr Hayne brought our client back to his home, approached her in the dark, turned her around as to not face him and told her ‘no kissing’,” he said.
“He then had nonconsensual sexual intercourse with her, causing her significant physical pain.”
According to The Mercury News, the suit claims the victim was a virgin at the time and was afraid to come forward for several months. It’s also alleged she sought medical treatment for ongoing vaginal pain.
When approached by The Daily Telegraph, Hayne’s manager Wayne Beavis said he was not aware of the claims or the lawsuit.
More to come.
