On Friday, Jackie O made an official statement to The Daily Telegraph, announcing her split from British photographer Lee Henderson.
“After 18 years together, we have made the decision to separate. We do so amicably, sharing many incredible memories and remaining best friends,” she told the publication.
Now, speaking the The Daily Mail, Kyle Sandilands revealed the news initially came as a shock to him, given how “perfect” the pair were together.
“You’d look at them and be envious. You know, they’re the perfect couple,” Kyle began.
“I don’t know a lot about it, I just want to be there for my friend. I was really sad when I heard about it,” he said.
“You’re sad for your friends but she assures me that they’re both in a better place now, and they’re both better friends than they were together.
“I just wanted her to know I am there for her as a friend, I have known her for 20 years for God’s sake. I hope she is happy, I hope the whole family is happy.”
On Friday during her KIIS FM breakfast radio show, Jackie O decided to acknowledge the news she’d officially announced that day.
“We’ve been separated for quite some time now. We talk every day on the phone, we all still hang out as a family. I’m really proud that we’ve managed to do this amicably,” she told Kyle.
“You know a separation is never easy, so I feel lucky that we were able to get through that period of time, dealing with it on our own… Our priority has always been Kitty through this, and that’s why it’s so important for us to keep a good relationship, Lee and I, because we want her to be part of a loving family.”
Responding to her honesty on air, Kyle revealed he cried upon Jackie O telling him the news some time ago.
“I have known for a while but there’s a part of me, it eats at me. I cried yesterday. I am not good at these situations,” he said.
Jackie O and her husband married in 2003 after meeting in a Sydney bar almost 20 years ago while Lee was backpacking through the country.
The pair share a seven-year-old daughter named Kitty.
