Dance Moms' star: "If they can't touch their toes, they're lazy."

She’s the controversial dance diva from the American reality show “Dance Moms” and now, she’s here in Australia.

Abby Lee Miller is a dance teacher who lives by the philosophy of “tough love”.  “I’m preparing kids for a professional career” Abby says.

“When they leave the Abby Lee Dance Company at the age of 18, they move to LA or New York and book a job. I’ve had students get work in Wicked, Beauty And The Beast, at Disney and Cirque de Soleil" she went on to say.

Now, Abby is here in Australia, to promote her hit reality TV show. Just yesterday, Abby was teaching a masterclass in Sydney and told an auditorium of 2000 dancers and parents “if you can’t touch your toes at this age, it is because you’re lazy or you need to see a paediatrician”. Ouch.

So what is this dance mum’s harsh approach is giving regular dance mums a bad name?

What about the mums that take their children to dance classes on Saturday mornings, simply to let them have a bit of fun, to see their friends, to dress up in pink tights and frilly skirts and dance shoes. To fulfill the fantasies of most little girls?

We’ll let you be the judge.

Do you think Abby Lee Miller is giving dance mums a bad name?
