Kristen Bell's "controversial" trick for getting her three-year-old to sleep.

Kristen Bell has always been pretty damn honest about her parenting struggles.

There was that time she breastfed her husband, Dax Shepard. And that other time her kids walked in on her and Dax having sex.

Now the 37-year-old actress has shared her somewhat controversial method for getting her three-year-old daughter, Delta, to sleep.

“Look, I’ll get controversial,” she told Parents magazine. “My three-year-old decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago. And every night, when we put her to bed, she turns the lights on, which annoys the four-year-old, and she will move furniture, and she bangs on the door with different, hard toys. We switched the door knob. We turned the lock on the outside.”

We need to talk about Ashton Kutcher’s $1500 cot that rocks your baby to sleep. Post continues.

While the Bad Moms star acknowledged this method wouldn’t sit well with all parents, she said it’s working a treat for them.

“I’m sorry, I know that’s controversial, but we lock it when she gets in there, and we stand outside and say, ‘We love you, we will talk to you in the morning, but now, it’s time for sleep.’ And after about 10 minutes, she’ll wind herself down. And then, before we go to bed, obviously, we unlock it.”

This isn’t the first time Kristen has shared a glimpse into her warts and all parenting style.

Earlier this year she told the story of the time she had to breastfed her own husband.

“I’ve had mastitis three times… it’s the worst,” she told the Momsplaining YouTube show.

The Frozen star said she’d been prescribed antibiotics for the condition in two instances.

But the third time she got mastitis, she was unable to get to a doctor. Desperate for relief, she turned to her husband for help.

“This was right after the baby stopped nursing… so I said to my husband, ‘I’m gonna need you to suck this out’.

“We could talk about it, we can be weird about it, or you can just go ahead and nurse.”

Kristen then detailed how Dax kept a cup next him throughout the… process… which he would spit her breast milk into.

“He was pulling out, and spitting into this cup. And I’ve never been more in love in my life.”

If that isn’t the ultimate example of a husband and wife working together for the greater good, we’re not sure what is.

I guess it's not all that different to having a baby or toddler in a cot/crib.
