The new female-led Netflix drama that's just as addictive as Breaking Bad.

A lot happens in the pilot episode of Good Girls.

We’re introduced to Beth (Christina Hendricks), Annie (Mae Whitman) and Ruby (Retta), three overworked suburban mums, struggling to keep it all together.

Beth has just discovered her husband Dean (Matthew Lillard) is having an affair with his secretary and that he’s refinanced the house… three times. He’s also got the family into a hell of a lot of credit card debt.

Beth’s younger sister, Annie, is a single mum who’s stuck in a custody battle with her wealthy ex, and Ruby’s daughter, Sara, desperately needs a kidney transplant.

The mums quickly discover that money – and lots of it – would be solution to all their problems.

So, they band together and rob a supermarket, accidentally setting themselves up for a life of crime.

In robbing the supermarket, the women get a lot more than what they bargained for, and soon find themselves the target of a local gang.

Oh… and they also hogtie a man and hold him hostage in their tree house ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The rest of the season sees the “good girls” (who are most definitely women, by the way) digging themselves deeper and deeper into the gritty underworld of their sleepy Detroit suburb.

Good Girls is kind of like Breaking Bad, meets Bad Moms, meets Desperate Housewives. 

It takes the middle class white guy turned petty criminal narrative, which we’re all very familiar with from shows like Breaking Bad and Ozark, and flips it on its head.

Christina Hendricks (and her trusty sidekicks) are the Walter Whites of a new generation of women who are taking matters into their own hands.

This is the feminist version, where these women operate a million dollar money laundering scheme during the day, then help their kids with their maths homework in the evening.

Good Girls is funny, it’s unexpected, and it ultimately proves just how far a mum will go to protect her family.
