Gogglebox's Wayne suffers a year of horrible health scares and bad news.

If there was one way to describe the year that Gogglebox star Wayne has had, it would surely be annus horribilis.

Speaking to Foxtel Magazine earlier in the week the 46-year-old confirmed that when it rains it pours.

“I’ve had a couple of personal health issues – I had whooping cough and a heart attack – and I was made redundant from my job,” he said, before adding that the doctors were able to catch his heart attack “quickly” and that he was discharged “basically the next day.”

Ever the positive ray of sunshine, he simply conceded, "when one door closes another window always opens."

Appearing on Channel 10's popular reality show of people watching people on television his long-term partner, Tom, it didn't take long for the former Organisational Development Manager to become one of the nation's favourite men of all time.

When he opened up about gay marriage in September, the whole country fell in love with the Kylie Minogue super-fan.

Watching an episode of same-sex couple Craig and Andy on Married at First Sight, Wayne began to tear up and reached for Tom's hand.

“Are you getting romantic?” Tom asked, to which Wayne replied, “No, it’s making me sad. It’s mum’s birthday on Saturday, and it’s the one thing she wanted, was to see us married, and we’re never going to get to do it.”

While it's too early to know if Wayne and Tom will be returning to our screens next year (please, if there is a God let them be), but for now, all we can say is let 2017 begin already. If for no one else but Wayne.
